Anyone got a recommendation?
I am changing some office equipment soon. I know many of you work from a home office, like me, so here goes.
I am getting rid of my old Lexmark colour printer and a photocopier so old it is no more than a row of Monks in a box.
I am going to replace them with a multi function. I need colour and good quality so I am told laser is the way to go. I am not bothered about fax capability cos I have a dedicated fax.
My concern is running costs. To print and copy on my Lexmak or similar would be astronomical. I do about 800 B&W prints a month and 200 colour prints / month (usually in a shade of blue - don't ask). i also do about 1000 - 1500 B&W photocopies per month.
Average assistant in our local computer shops doesn't know whether its arse or breakfast time so they have been no help. Anyone here had a similar requirement and found a machine that can do this without costing me 100's every month in toner and drums?
For the record, my copier costs less than 1p / copy to run and the lexmark is silly money.
Thanks
Alan

None of the multi function printers is going to be economical in terms of doing bulk copying. Photocopiers are by far and away the cheapest. I did some research a few years ago and I opted for a cheap second hand photocopier from a dealer. It doesmean that without the requirements for a copier functionthen you can get a much cheaper and simpler printer. I have recently bought an HP multi function for home as the home requirement for copying is small (usually related to kids homework).

Morning.

I've just dusted down my old lap top, disk cleaned the C drive and done the usual defrag thing. Is there anything else I can do to get the laptop running as fast as my desktop?

The laptop is 6 years old, is it time to replace her?

Thanks

KD.

Probably.

KEADIAN, first thing to check is how much memory you have installed. You may be able to speed it up significantly by increasing the memory cheaply.

Thanks.

I bought an HP laser multifunction b&w printer for work which I have to assume has the same running costs as a photocopier. Very reliable, good quality, but I'm convinced toner cartridges have much less toner in than before because we get through four times as many refills as before, but we probably use the machine 2-3 x as much. I think it's every bit as good as a photocopier.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Does anyone know of some alarm software for the PC that will sound an alarm or show a message at a set time.

MB,

Wasn't there a post on this thread about a password cracker about a month ago?

I am not sure how you search threads but I guess your lad has some time on his hands at the moment !!!!!

That is a different type of password tracker. It requires Windows to be running.

Try these

http://labmice.techtarget.com/articles/BIOS_hack.htm

http://www.pwcrack.com/bios.shtml

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/reference/biosp.htm

or search Google with - bios password reset

Another timewaster, eh? ;-)

Download and install PC Wizard 2006 from http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

When you've done that, open the program, click on the 'Configuration' tab.

To your left you will see several icons. The one you want looks like a pair of keys.

Click on this icon and all the passwords on the machine, which have been saved to Windows, will be revealed.

Hope that helps. :-)

If you cannot get onto the pc in the 1st place how can you download and install the software ????

Rick the timewaster.

2 days after my Norton Internet Security was due to be renewed, which I haven't done, I got a message to say it had blocked an intrusion:

Intrusion: MS SQL Stack BO.
Intruder: 61.187.200.10(4756)
Risk level: High
Protocol: UDP
Attacked IP: 0.0.0.0
Port: ms-sql-m(1434)

What on earth does this all mean? I look on it as a cynical pre-programmed attempt by Symantec to get me to renew!!! (OK, maybe not but that was my first thought).

As I don't do emails on this machine, what alternative security does anyone recommend, gotta be cheap as chips though!

Seymour Clearly - 27 Jun 2006 13:48 - 4700 of 11003

Rick, that's for you. I thought Doc was a bit quick answering my query!
