How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?
Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Bets on 12 races today, in profit on 10, so not a bad day, although some of them were a bit messy!

I was having an excellent day till the 16:50 and made a bit of a hash of that one; but that was the only race I lost money on, other than that not a bad day.

Watching the 15:50 with interest. Harrys dream priced at 1.19 before the off, may lay in running at short odds if well in the lead.

9 winners today vice 4 losers, unfortunately the overall result ended up as a financial loss. However becoming a little more familiar with the software and learning to leave some races alone.
Scrip, I must be missing something here, why would you wish to lay the 'odds on favourite' whilst in running?

"Harrys dream priced at 1.19 before the off, may lay in running at short odds if well in the lead."
That's the kind of thing I'm missing too, pth. :-)
"....in the lead" is one thing. "....well in the lead" is another.
So there's a horse, the odds-on favourite, well in the lead and the race is running. Obviously, it could get beaten at the post and as they all get nearer to the post, the chance of this unfortunate thing happening increases. But it is the odds-on favourite and it is well in the lead.
I need something more to go on here....
:-)

If it was well in the lead at tiny odds my liability is minimal but it would still have quite a few fences to jump so it was really a judgement on if it would stumble at one of the fences. As it was it ran very well and never looked like making an error.

I would say that this week has been difficult on the horses. No blockbuster days for me this week at all. The first three races I couldn't make any money on at all and indeed made a small loss but the rest of the card was better to me in terms of ability to trade.
I was -3, +9 today. I would rate today as maybe a 4/10 in terms of ability to trade. For comparison the last 103 races I have had only 9 losers including today.

Harrys Dream was never threatened at all during the race and although I had scalped a few ticks pre 'in play' I also had a few backs bets during the running ti increase my profitability. However I see where you are coming from.
Some of the cards for the races have been particularly dreadful and that's coming from someone who knows sod all about horses. Poor races it seems do not lend themselves to trading on a Betting Exchange.

Wonderful morning (early bleary one) trading the cricket.
For anyone getting involved in the tennis beware of the flu factor:

Might have a thrash at the bookmaking / dutching facility this afternoon. At least a couple of races I don't fancy trading.

Probably an opportunity in there. Retirements are something that are almost impossible to factor into the odds.

Bloody hell, just has a real arse twitching moment on the last hoss race. Ended up with two unfilled lay bets, but got them filled in play for my biggest win to date.
:-))
Don't want to make a habit of that though!!

LOL! Nothing like profit to sooth the twitches. Any reason why you didn't close before it went in running, or was that a tactic?

basically a cock up scrip, had two filled back bets, but didnt get the corresponding laid bets filled. Decided to go with the race in play and wait for an opportunity to get the bets matched. Was on the favourite, so thought I would have a good chance as long as it didn't fall. Could have traded out earlier for a smallish loss, but took the risk.
