How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Only traded 6 races, had 3 good winners and 1 big losers, also laid an odds on shot in running that never got within 5 lengths of the winner (not a usual tactic of mine but looking gifthorses in the mouth and all that)

Playing golf today, so no racing. Pity, I've really been enjoying myself since attending Scrip's course. Only one more week to go before back to work as well, so best make the most of it while I can.

Dil

had a quick look and doesnt look as though the coupon has been listed. Maybe they are delaying it or not going in play due to recent saturday site problems?

Scripophilist - 14 Oct 2005 11:05 - 5147 of 10502

When I was in Betfair this week they reckon the Saturday issues were a rogue user who has now been put to pasture so things should be much better now.

Amorist a cracker to trade in the 3.00, go back what i lost on the previous race!!!

Scripophilist - 14 Oct 2005 15:30 - 5149 of 10502

Quite a difficult race to call though with all the leaders in the field at similar prices.

Fundamentalist - 14 Oct 2005 21:34 - 5150 of 10502

Just nicked on to the rugby and laid Leicester at 1.03 - they are now 16-16 with 6 mins to go (and still odds on) - not green yet

Fundamentalist - 14 Oct 2005 21:36 - 5151 of 10502

draw odds against at 16-16 with 2 mins to go!!!

Fundamentalist - 14 Oct 2005 21:39 - 5152 of 10502

draw was at 1.25 when the match finished !!!! dont ever see that in football

Scripophilist - 14 Oct 2005 21:39 - 5153 of 10502

Well done, in contrast I am catching up on paperwork tonight!

Fundamentalist - 14 Oct 2005 21:41 - 5154 of 10502

dont envy you the paperwork - did mine last week

Dil - 15 Oct 2005 01:53 - 5155 of 10502

Scripophilist - 15 Oct 2005 15:43 - 5156 of 10502

15:25 Strat - Valley Ride, Miles is the lead coming up to the line and heads to the paddock unseated rider. 42k turned over at 1.01 and 95-1 outsider comes in.

Was messing around in play and landed a bunch by getting matched at 95-1 a real fluke.

Fundamentalist - 15 Oct 2005 16:42 - 5157 of 10502

nice one scrip

give us the heads up next time youve got a 94-1 winner will you!!!!

Scripophilist - 15 Oct 2005 16:58 - 5158 of 10502

I don't know if you saw it but it was one of those once a year bizarre finishes to a race.

I see your cat would have been right to lay Arsenal again.

Premiership seems all but over now.

Scripophilist - 15 Oct 2005 17:01 - 5159 of 10502

Southampton draw their eighth game in a row. A remarkable and near on impossible feat. I reckon that's around a 15,000-1 shot.

ptholden - 15 Oct 2005 18:13 - 5160 of 10502

Think u should support another team Scrip! :-)
