Sorry but I cannot agree with you on this share. The price is badly down today and there's a very good reason for that. It has risen too sharply over the past few months and is experiencing a correction. The price will continue to drop until reaching, in my opinion, the 20 pence mark.
I'm selling my stock, cashing in now, and may consider returning after the price correction has completed its course.

Interesting - I think we have a gremlin called kivvver - with 3 v's seems to be posting randomly all over this board to destabilise it. He has posted similar doom & Gloom stories on other threads as well.

I found this guy posting on other threads and thought I would check him/her out. Likes to use names that are similar to others to make u think its them - somethimes he just changes a capital letter or adds another letter in the name.

Ian (Moneyam) - you might like to check this out i case I an wrong

i think you got one too, baza, bhuntty, on the kmr thread!!!!!

Fred1new - 06 Jun 2005 13:20 - 5364 of 27111

Kiv, I think you are an optimist. the B/S ratio is 43/55 on very small volumes and i think with any info like which has been released there is generally a stand and stare period.

I have been away for 3-4 days sleeping in a field. I was horrified to see over 200 updates to this thread but was delighted to find that because I had already Squelched Jak, II, Pauline, Sequestration, Chichi it cut about 80% of the inane contributions.

bhunt1910 - 06 Jun 2005 13:21 - 5365 of 27111

Oh well - little things please little minds - but more importantly - if someone is deliberately trying to pretend to be someone else - it puts the whole board in question. Not sure if this is malicious by someone trying to undermine what used to be an execellent BB - but has recently fallen into decline - or just some kids having a bit of fun - but MAM need to start to get a grip on this before it undermines the whole board.

Stanelco boosts starch knowledge base 06/06/2005 11:20:00 AM

LONDON (ShareCast) - Stanelco is expanding its expertise in starch technology with the acqusition of Biotec from EKI for $25m, payable over the next two years.

Biotec is one of the world's leading exponents of starch technology and has a considerable intellectual property portfolio, including many patents, Stanelco said, which added it may issue shares through a placing to pay for deal.

Biotec's proprietary pharmaceutical grade film is suited for applications where it replaces conventional polymers such as gelatine in pharmaceutical and edible applications. It also has ranges of products that are ready for commercialisation within the food and beverage industries.

Stanelco shares have risen more than four-fold in the past six months as it has held trials with Asda over its new starch-based food packaging sealing technology.

Hi All,

Direct competition for bprg, but with decent management and honest directors, we could beat them to the big deals :)))))))))))))))

"Biotec's proprietary pharmaceutical grade film is suited for applications where it replaces conventional polymers such as gelatine in pharmaceutical and edible applications. It also has ranges of products that are ready for commercialisation within the food and beverage industries."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have read the RNS a few times now, and now think(99% sure) the Trays and Film which were the subject of trials since January, are the reason Stanelco has made this aquisition.

The last Buisiness Wire press release spoke heavily of MAP packaging, and also quoted Howard as saying, that he hopes to see Greenseal fitted to half of the 50,000 MAP packaging machines in USA, Europe and UK, within 3 years. The interesting bit today that goes with that, is at the end of the RNS ....

Ian Balchin, CEO of Stanelco said:

'This exciting acquisition is the next piece in the jigsaw that will enable
Stanelco to become one of the world's leading exponents of viable, alternative, environmentally responsible packaging methods. It has become apparent that with the rise in oil prices, the cost of petroleum based packaging materials is inevitably increasing faster than our alternatives - making them increasingly attractive. In particular APET/PE sheet for making food trays is currently in the order of 1.70 per kilo and the target price of the Biotec material will be in the region of 1.80 per kilo. There are also a large number of environmental benefits that are driving the shift from petro-plastics to sustainable alternatives. I believe the acquisition positions the Stanelco Group to take advantage of this rapidly expanding market place and specifically it will enable Stanelco to offer its product ranges that contain starch product at up to 20% less than is currently available. This acquisition also creates a further barrier to entry for potential competition in the GREENSEAL project as we will be able to provide a turnkey, ecologically, environmentally responsible solution to MAP food packaging requirements.

Ian Balchin continued, 'Biotec dovetails with our RF technology, our
water-soluble and biodegradable technology at Adept Polymers and the packaging design and development skills of Aquasol, all subsidiaries of Stanelco, and gives greater access to world markets for the whole Group. We are particularly relishing the prospect of unlocking Biotec's potential in conjunction with leading supermarkets to supply mass-markets.

Bigger than we can imagine ? Stanelco Trays and Film to complement Greenseal, at a price to compete with Petro-films, another no-brainer !

In the USA 2.8 billion MAP packaged meat trays are used every year, and that is expected to grow to 70% of the 9 billion meat package market, by 2010.

From the Final Results for the Year ending 2004

Food containers We announced during the year that we were working on biodegradable food containers, made predominantly from starch materials. Work on the first product is now reaching an advanced stage and if successful we hope to license it during the next year.

Also worth noting is this bit from today's RNS ....

I am also pleased to report that the second trial for GREENSEAL with ASDA has
moved into the retail phase, having passed the stability (shelf-life) test with flying colours. The third and final trial is commencing this week.

Once the final trial is complete, I expect Wal-Mart to start moving.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also another plus point for todays deal ....

From today "Biotec has a unique portfolio of products including Thermoplastic starch ('TPS'), which enables the use of environmentally responsible material in place of petro-plastics"

And the reason it is of benefit is in the RNS below ....

Stanelco plc develops new material format for use in tray manufacture and thermoform packaging

Stanelco PLC

26 November 2004

Stanelco plc Stanelco plc develops new material format for use in tray manufacture and thermoform packaging

Stanelco plc ("Stanelco" or "the Company"), the RF (radio frequency) applications group, is pleased to announce the development of a new biodegradable starch/PVA film product for use with its RF technology in tray manufacture and thermoform packaging. This progresses a patent application announcement on 14 May 2004, which has resulted in the development of a new range, low cost starch/PVA biodegradable film material which using RF can be processed like conventional thermoplastics.

The Company has now used this patented technology to develop a process to produce this product in a sheet format for the manufacture of thin wall food trays for specific use with organic and other foods. It can also be used with thermo-formers for packaging products such as bacon, cooked meats, etc. The film material has excellent qualities including a superb gas barrier in mono format and can be sealed using Stanelco's RF technology process. In addition it is cost competitive with other types of biodegradable products currently in use in the market.

Initially this product will be targeted at organic ranges which represents approximately 6% of Supermarket produce sales but future developments will endeavour to make the product cost competitive with general packaging materials. Trials will commence in the New Year and, if successful, commercialization will commence in the current financial year.

Stanelco is in discussions with a number of end users and manufacturers regarding the testing of the technology with a view to the adoption of this process into their product lines. Further announcements will be made in due course.

Ian Balchin, CEO of Stanelco, commented: "At the time of the original application for the patent we were excited about the opportunities it might present. With further development of the process we have opened up a new product line and the interest from end users has been very encouraging. We look forward to further developing this exciting new area for Stanelco and its shareholders."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Greenseal again proves to be a no-brainer ....

From my website, the Beef USA report ....

Products with advanced discoloration are likely to be discarded. Each of these options contributes to losses in value and sales of beef at retail. U.S. retailers fail to capture at least one billion dollars of revenue annually from fresh beef sales, due to product discoloration.

FYI

All references in my last post are taken from articles on my website

Also Biotec are still going to supply Earthshell, who are suppliers to McDonalds, so maybe we will see a tie up with Earthshell for Stanelco's process of foaming starch trays 10x faster than the current heat based method :)

paulmasterson1 - 06 Jun 2005 14:16 - 5372 of 27111

Bosley Hi,

From my research :)

Could the RF technology to make starch based containers cheaper and faster, be licenced to this company that already supplies McDonalds ?

http://www.earthshell.com/foam.html

As an environmental packaging technology company, EarthShell Corporation licenses and commercializes proprietary composite material technology for the manufacture of EarthShell Packaging. EarthShell Packaging, including cups, plates, bowls, hinged-lid containers and sandwich wraps, has been designed with the environment in mind. Based on a unique composite technology that combines organics such as starch from potatoes and inorganic materials such as limestone, EarthShell Packaging is designed to be high performing and cost-competitive compared to other food service packaging options.

EarthShell Packaging offers an alternative within the $25 billion market for paper and plastic disposables

Or directly to the companies manufacturing the products for them ?

http://www.earthshell.com/partners.html

Sweetheart Cup Company is a leading manufacturer of disposable food service products in North America, and the largest manufacturer and supplier of single service products. Sweetheart possesses a tremendous amount of manufacturing expertise and industry knowledge dating back to 1911. With production and warehousing facilities throughout the United States and Canada, Sweetheart will play an integral role in the production of EarthShell Packaging and the penetration of our products into North American markets.

As part of an expanding relationship, the two companies have signed a letter of intent providing the basis for Sweetheart to be the primary supplier of EarthShell Packaging sandwich containers, cups, plates and bowls in North America. To date, over 24 million hinged-lid containers for the Big Mac sandwich have been manufactured at the St. Thomas production facility in Owings Mills, Md. and used in the McDonald's system.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

McDonalds restaurants in Germany, Austria and Sweden are using Biocorps ReSourceWareTM. (cutlery !)
This also poses the possibility of RF being used to form starch based rubbish bags faster and cheaper than the current heat based methods.

Taiwan and Bangladesh have banned the plastic bag. Seventy-five percent of Norwegian municipalities are now using potato starch based bags for household rubbish collection. The Sydney Olympics used over 45 million potato starch utensils and bags that saw over 75% of all waste recycled. Over 300 McDonalds restaurants in the USA are now using alternatives to plastic.

The McDonalds "Goes Green" Story ..

Based on the same logic, McDonalds in Austria and Sweden have initiated a long-term program to replace all its non-compostable material into compostable ones. The program is strengthened by the fact that McDonalds will even suggest that its suppliers of tomatoes, potatoes and salads begin converting to compost as fertilizer instead of the synthetic alternative. Imagine McDonalds, long a symbol for waste, promoting organically grown food, fertilized with its waste, based on an integrated system, which secures that nothing, is wasted. Even the trucks could be powered by methane gas generated in the process.

Well worth reading the whole story here ..

From McDonalds.com FAQ

Q. What is McDonald's doing to help the environment?
A. McDonald's is absolutely committed to preserving and protecting the environment. We realize that to be a business leader, we must be an environmental leader, too. McDonald's is committed to taking a total "life cycle" approach to solid waste. We follow three main courses of action: reduce, reuse, and recycle.

To seek advice on specific environmental issues in the U.S., we have worked in partnership with such nonprofit organizations as the Environmental Defense Fund, Conservation International, and the National Wildlife Federation. We enacted a comprehensive Waste Reduction Action Plan in 1991, which now includes more than 100 environmental initiatives.

Also, since 1990, we've reduced packaging by more than 55 million pounds and our Buy Recycle Program has purchased nearly $3 billion of recycled products for equipping and constructing, packaging for our restaurants. In the area of cutting energy consumption, McDonald's joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's voluntary Green Lights Program, and is replacing indoor lighting with brighter, more efficient systems. These systems significantly reduce pollution at the manufacturing source.

When it comes to protecting endangered tropical rain forests, McDonald's maintains a strict policy against buying beef from rain forest lands.

These are only some of the initiatives McDonald's takes in helping to protect our environment. For more information on McDonald's environmental efforts, check out McDonald's and the Environment.

For those who say it is not a potential dilution coming- 25M US$ for a loss making company - which may or may not help them cut costs on something they are not selling now - nice idea - why not issue 100M shares and keep the leftover to pay salaries of this German company - you know what German labour laws are like - IMO Biotec could suck any leftover cash out of SEO with its debts and losses.

Have they done decent due dilligence or bare minimum to CYA - do they know German labour laws - very different to the UK ones.

They will probably pay 25M US$ for something thats worth very little to them in all reality - and it happens all the time this kind of "whoops nice idea shame it did not work in reality" buyouts and takeovers.

This confusion that causes the uncertainty and the fall in the SP of the buyer - for nobody really knows that lies deep in the account books - whats "hidden" - whats the reality - what was the deal - what are different country labour law implications - debt servicing - and for all the positive gloss - they nearly always end in problems for the buyer short to mid term.

In general the buyer takes a large hit on their SP and the one being bought gets a rise.

The stockmarket is riddled with buy outs that cause short to mid term cash problems - will this be yet another - especially as its one loss making firm buying another loss making firm.

The big picture maybe - the speed with which is was done shows perhaps IMO purely potential CYA due dilligence - are they rushing it as they want to do the shares issue (dilution) before the interims are reported ?? This is the most likely reason behind the speed and rush - get the shares off before you report the losses IMO !

Sharesure - 06 Jun 2005 15:42 - 5374 of 27111

That doesn't make any sense at all. The world knows SEO's results will be bad, but that was for a period when the company was entirely different to its current form. How they pay for their acquisition is open to a number of possibilities, including the issue of more shares at possibly higher levels than now when further orders have been announced. Why not wait and see? I doubt that SEO will test your patience for long.

As you said they do supply McDonald's, this is excellent news this is what this board was talking about over a year ago deposable cartons/box's, as it was said in an earlier post it takes the pressure of Green seal, and just adds to an ever increasing list of products in the SEO portfolio we are seeing this company turning its self into a major player in this field if not the biggest.

I got this of the Earthshell Web Site the plot thickens or the jigsaw is coming together.

"We see more than 100 million shoppers every week at Wal-Mart stores, and environmental products are important to a growing number of them. Wal-Mart is pleased to introduce EarthShell Packaging plates and bowls as an extension of our current line of traditional disposable dinnerware."

EVO note sounds good, and I bet Khashoggi wishes he had taken shares in SEO a year ago, when Stanelco made their first offer for Biotec .... they would be worth 100m now :))))

Here in my own words, is my summary of the notes main points ....

Placing next month to pay for Biotec

Biotec to apply for more Patents within weeks

Until those Patent applications are announced we won't be told what is in the Biotec pipeline, but any Greenseal benefits will become clear.

Stanelco can licence a complete sealing and packaging solution, of Greenseal plus trays and film, and Greenseal plus thermoforming sheet.

In the medium term Biotec may have a huge impact.Short term apart from a relatively small placing, not much impact

Having 'lurked' for sometime I have followed this thread with interest - and bought in to SEO!

Although disappointed by today's slight fall, I agree with Sharesure. My view is that this company restructuring itself well to cover a perceived weakness.

Wal-Mart CIBC note out today, makes some good statements.

Potential acceleration of growth. The company sees the potential for another 3,900 Supercenters(1200 from converted discount centers) with 950 of them already internally processed.

35-40 new Sam's clubs set to open this year

ASDA facing difficult retailing trends in the UK, pressuring sales and profit near term, but is reacting to the trends by offering better value, new differentiated products, and improved customer service, while trimming costs. The main priority is now to drive sales through increasing value and reducing costs.

Possible expansion into India, Wal-Mart sees India as a $250Bn retail opportunity, with the largest educated, english speaking population in the world, with the fastest growing middle class.
