much more important than cobras 1-2p prognostication is that (a) the placing was at only a modest discount and (b) has been readily absorbed ..... this gives much comfort, even if not necessarily substance to AFR's fairly immediate and promising future

Have recently taken profit on 25% of my holding, but am happy to retain the rest.
Still haven't seen any broker targets over 110p from memory.

unless i am much mistaken, that was always their idea behind this placing ...... the nigerians are of course a most honourable and honest bunch! ...... that said, i remain confident that AFR will bring home the bacon, easily within my lifetime - it has actually found very significant reserves, as is well published

27000 barrels of oil at the moment if I'm not mistaken...all the talk is about future production with the newish discoveries. Isn't the 15000 barrels of oil by mid 2010 on top of what they already have ?..if not then I'm mixed up....will have to check...

don't entirely disagree halifax, as you well know, but at least it's significantly better than saying they have some interesting prospective sites!
btw, sp remains pretty firm all things considered

FT chat guys still sceptical about the real reason for the sale:
"Did some maths on the Founder Warrants and share sales. The numbers clearly demonstrate that the CEO (Osman Shahenshah) took more than 2.2m net OUT of the company through the exercise of these REPRICED warrants and share sales. The fig leaf of 'tax payment on the warrants' clearly doesn't hold water. Note that the CEO now only owns c.4m shares, having sold 9m yesterday. Warrant exercise price 39.75p, sale price 81p, tax rate UK cap gains @ 18%."

and what does sp tell you?
it shows that any sales are being readily absorbed and sp remains very steady under the circumstances
at the end of the day, it'll be drilling results or other related news that drives sp

Presumably there has to be plenty of shares available for big insti investments so maybe that is hy the CEO released some. He's got plenty left for the rise!

Afren plc announces the completion of the Ebok-5 appraisal well offshore Nigeria
London, Tuesday 17th November 2009. Afren plc and its partner Oriental Energy Resources ("Oriental") announce completion of the Ebok-5 appraisal well.
Highlights
The Ebok- 5 appraisal well has been drilled to a total depth of 3,743' md
Ebok-5 has encountered a further 54 ft of gross oil pay in the D2 and LD1F reservoirs
The oil column is full to base in both reservoirs
Extensive log and pressure data has been acquired over these intervals, which are currently being analysed
A total of four oil-bearing reservoirs were encountered ranging in measured depth from 2,341 ft. to 3,090 ft.
The Ebok-5 well, which was drilled by the Transocean Adriatic IX jack up drilling unit, has been drilled to a total depth of 3,743'. The well encountered a total gross oil column of 266 ft in the D1 and LD-1E reservoir sands ranging in measured depth from 2,341 ft to 3,090 ft, in addition to a further 54 ft of gross oil pay in the D2 and LD1F reservoirs.
Analysis of an extensive logging and sampling programme on the D1, LD1E, D2 and LD1F sands is ongoing.
Osman Shahenshah, Chief Executive of Afren, commented:
"The Ebok-5 well results have exceeded pre-drill estimates, and provide an important additional calibration point for the amplitude model, which will assist in further appraisal and de-risking of the remaining upside potential in the Ebok - Okwok complex."
Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, Chairman of Oriental, commented:
"We are delighted with the successful results of the Ebok-5 appraisal well. Since Afren and Oriental established our partnership, we have grown the resources base on Ebok from a pre drill minimum economic field size of circa 25 million barrels to a current recoverable reserves base in excess of 78 million barrels. We look forward to further increasing our presence in the Ebok-Okwok area."
