How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

lite.betfair.com still works, but you can't see your orders.

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 14:53 - 5904 of 10502

And it appears you can see the prices either!

Subject Line: Settlement Delays 19/11/2005

We are experiencing extremely high volumes of traffic to Betfair.com this afternoon, and as a result we anticipate that there will be some delay in the settlement of bets. Wed like to apologise to all affected members as we fully appreciate that this can be extremely inconvenient. Please be assured that we are working to minimise these delays as far as possible.

Iim open on football, rugby and a horse race getting the right hump, time to open a beer methinks!

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 14:55 - 5907 of 10502

I guess the publicity at Haydock is driving much larger volumes.

Aristo - 19 Nov 2005 14:58 - 5908 of 10502

Ironic that it first broke during the race they sponsor!

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 15:09 - 5909 of 10502

I was thinking that too, a great piece of publicity!

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 15:09 - 5910 of 10502

Oh well, the footy is in the lap of the gods now!

Aristo - 19 Nov 2005 15:13 - 5911 of 10502

Afternoon All,

Bit late today but seems I've missed out on betfair going down again. Not sure whether to trade or not now?

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 15:35 - 5914 of 10502

Seems to be peforming ok at the moment.

bakko - 19 Nov 2005 15:39 - 5915 of 10502

Just hope it stays that way

bakko - 19 Nov 2005 15:54 - 5916 of 10502

Playing around with the dutcing facility on the ManU game but could't get the draw to fill. Almost immediately ManU score and now green.

More luck than skill!

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 16:02 - 5917 of 10502

Skill no doubt.

Try dutching or bookmaking the correct score market if there is enough volume and the spread is tight enough. Practically printing money unless there is an outrageous scoreline.

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 16:03 - 5918 of 10502

Did OK in the end on all the open positions I had and the horse markets were OK today so time for some quality time with the kids now.

Scripophilist - 19 Nov 2005 16:05 - 5919 of 10502

Just looked at the footy scores, Saints 3-0 at half time. What's going on there? Pahars scored as well, you mean he is actually fit enough to play for the first time in three seasons?

bakko - 19 Nov 2005 16:09 - 5920 of 10502

Maybe it's cos this Clifford bloke has left and they're playing and training in the traditional way!
