How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

This comment made even me chuckle

"Why have Arsenal got the scoreline written on their shirts"

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 17:56 - 7167 of 10502

Scrip

should have kept your bet on the Celtic draw - finished 1-1

see the Santandar v Malaga game is 9 vs 8 after 5 red cards - nice game to have bought bookings

Cloudbase - 18 Dec 2005 21:16 - 7169 of 10502

anyone trading the snooker final, some good trading opps on Steve Davis?

Scripophilist - 18 Dec 2005 21:42 - 7170 of 10502

I have been watching it but only to test some stuff I am working on. Some good volume.

Cloudbase - 18 Dec 2005 21:53 - 7171 of 10502

I guess a lot of Chinese money on this one, had a couple of trades but greened up now. Still getting used to it so only small bets. Is there always 2or 3 seconds delay
on Betfair? used to near instant fills on futures.

Scripophilist - 18 Dec 2005 22:27 - 7172 of 10502

It is so people cant do you over if they have a faster TV feed than you. All in play events have this delay.

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 22:30 - 7173 of 10502

Evening all

made some nice profits out of the snooker but no position on the final as been out for a nice meal - had a few too many and hoping for a davis win - hes done me proud so far in the tournament and would be a hell of an achievement if he could win

Cloudbase - 18 Dec 2005 22:33 - 7174 of 10502

Ok, thanks will take some getting used to.

Cloudbase - 18 Dec 2005 22:37 - 7175 of 10502

Fundy, He has a mountain to climb now, looking though its all over bar the shouting,

Cloudbase

if youre brave enough the frame by frame markets ignore the match situation, made a few quid from the last one, just hoping for a Davis miracle

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 23:12 - 7177 of 10502

150k matched on frame 16 alone

Cloudbase - 18 Dec 2005 23:21 - 7178 of 10502

Fundy, thanks for pointing frame by frame, its very lively, just made a few on this frame. All over now, very good game though

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 23:21 - 7179 of 10502

Pity

Ding wins but what a great tournament from Davis

Fundamentalist - 18 Dec 2005 23:22 - 7180 of 10502

Cloudbase

the frame by frame can be quite profitable, in some games you can lay at 1.15 after the first red is potted
