THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

You can change your name TANK, but you will never change from being a complete KNOB! :0)

If you haven't read this article, it may be of interest and sums up possible intentions.

Also, may the Brexiters my think again about fragmenting Europe again.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/oct/15/what-should-we-do-about-russia-aleppo-ukraine-cyber-baltic-vladimir-putin

!Aleppo, Ukraine, cyber attacks, Baltic threats: what should we do about Putin?"

grannyboy - 17 Oct 2016 11:39 - 73966 of 81564

Yes well of course in the run up to the referendum we were told if we
voted LEAVE Putin would be over the moon, the sames now being said
with the implication that if the voters of the US vote for Trump then
that would please the Russians.

Without going for all out war with Russia, the west needs to bring in Assad
into the talks,no matter how much it irks those who want to remove him..

"Also, may the Brexiters my think again about fragmenting Europe again."

That statement needs clarifying?. Brexit has no connection to the fragmenting
of europe, it's doing a good job on its own, and when little fred brings up
the Ukraine, that was instigated by the US sponsored removal of a democraticly
elected government.

As far as most sensible people are concerned is its NATO that protects the West.

Fred1new - 17 Oct 2016 12:36 - 73967 of 81564

Will NATO continue in its present form?

umumuh!

cynic - 17 Oct 2016 12:45 - 73968 of 81564

if trump gets elected, then possibly not
i don't see that brexit makes any difference

The BBC have just reported on the Iraq governments attempts to retake
the city of Mosul, and the reporter stated "the Iraq government are attempting
to displace the 'suicide bombers'...Suicide bombers??, they have being occupiers,
how can they be called suicide bombers in that location?, When they're blowing
up bombs in Europe they can be called 'suicide bombers', but why the feck are
they describing them that way in Mosul?...

Typical BBC...

cynic - 17 Oct 2016 13:13 - 73970 of 81564

kamikazi doesn't fit in this instance :-)

Fred1new - 17 Oct 2016 13:18 - 73971 of 81564

GB,

"Yes well of course in the run up to the referendum we were told if we
voted LEAVE Putin would be over the moon, the sames now being said
with the implication that if the voters of the US vote for Trump then
that would please the Russians."

What suits Putin is a disjointed or fragmented European opposition looking after its own nationalistic "needs" or "wishes", rather than a coordinated opposition to its "imperialistic" machinations.

Like Cameron, until he fails he will do anything to stay in power and many of his actions are for his "home" consumption.

Manuel,

I think the USA is slowly saying to the hell with waging into overseas arguments and would prefer to be trying to restore its own economy and deal with its problems via use of a strong economy.

Clinton may be more willing to intervene than Obama but god only knows what Trump thinks or believes. (I have less belief in his utterances than a belief in a deity.

Remember USA did not enter WW2 until December 1941 and only then when they were "attacked" by Japan.

Wiki.
"After the bombing of the US Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor in December 1941, only one congressman opposed the declaration of war; the vote in the senate was unanimous. Hitler’s declaration of war on the US, which came four days later, was actually a blessing in disguise for Roosevelt; it enabled him to legitimately pursue a ‘Germany first’ strategy. In November 1942, "

fred - i don't entirely disagree, but the world has changed immeasurably in the last 75 years ....... the average american remains appallingly uninformed and isolationist, but the events of 9/11 proved that this was no protection against extremists ..... america of course has plenty of its own, and i don't meant muslims, but rather white supremacists and similar

============

to amuse and horrify .....
in a television interview a couple of days ago, the indy presidential candidate was asked his opinion of aleppo ...... having asked for the question to be repeated and then mumbled for a several seconds, he was forced to ask, "what is aleppo?"

Fred1new - 17 Oct 2016 14:33 - 73973 of 81564

Time has passed.

However, basic instincts and emotions have not.

Modes of expression of these two "driving forces" have been modified, but the often unspoken goals have not changed and although sometimes the actions are protective, especially in a more primitive society in more advanced societies they are destructive.

Looking around it seems many are wishing to engage the destructive elements for what they hope is personal self-advancement.

Back to more important things.

Have you a recipe for lamb (Shoulder of Welsh Lamb in Chunks), onions, chestnuts, mixed edible mushrooms, (cheap) red wine, garlic?

To be served with Mustard (? nutmeg) Mashed Potatoes. and ? Celeriac.

cynic - 17 Oct 2016 14:45 - 73974 of 81564

must the mushrooms REALLY be edible? :-)
interesting mix of chestnuts with lamb and confess it's not something i have ever tried

your ingredients imply a casserole of some kind

however, given that lamb is now getting quite fatty, you may like to consider very slow roast shoulder
this will not only melt the fat out of the shoulder (pretty fatty even when young), but will also result in meat that is rich and moist and just falling off the bone

mashed potato is always a fave in the colder months, and it can be enhanced in lots of ways - eg add any of the following: fruity olive oil, chopped parsley (lots), yoghurt, garlic etc

instead, you may want to consider giving it a persian twist by serving on a pilau, where again there many variations

Fred1new - 17 Oct 2016 15:08 - 73975 of 81564

Actually, lamb is quite young and lean, but I bought it with Cawl in mind and had cut into chunks.

Already sealed it and surprise how little fat there is.

Will press on, but I am sure I had a dish with the ingredients and I will add a little Rosemary or Thyme.

I can already taste it!

But there must be an Italian recipe.

PS.

I wouldn't allow a fungus to get the better of me.

Re: The Trumpo v Clinton presidential beano...could it be they are both stalking horses?

Both running mates would seem a safer pair of hands.

Eight men have been convicted of sexually exploiting teenage girls in Rotherham.
A five-week trial at Sheffield Crown Court heard how the men "sexualised" their victims and, in some instances, subjected them to acts of a "degrading and violent nature" between 1999 and 2003.
The jury, after more than 17 hours of deliberation, found them guilty of all 19 charges including rape and false imprisonment.
One girl and her family told police, their MP and the then home secretary David Blunkett about the abuse and eventually moved to Spain to get away from the men.
Supposed ringleader Sageer Hussain, 30, of Clough Road, Rotherham, was convicted of four rapes and one indecent assault.
The other seven defendents, other than Basharat Hussain, 40, from Goole, who was convicted of one indecent assault, are all from Rotherham.
Mohammed Whied, 32, of Psalters Lane, was found guilty of one count of aiding and abetting rape; Ishtiaq Khaliq, 33, of Cherry Brook, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape and three indecent assaults; Waleed Ali, 34, of Canklow Road, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape and one indecent assault; Asif Ali, 30, of Clough Road, Rotherham, was convicted on one rape; Masoued Malik, 32, of Bridgewater Way, Rotherham, was found guilty of one rape, one count of conspiracy to commit indecent assault and one of false imprisonment; and Naeem Rafiq, 33, of Clarendon Road, Rotherham, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit indecent assault and one of false imprisonment.
Professor Alexis Jay's 2014 inquiry, commissioned by Rotherham Borough Council, found at least 1,400 children were subjected to sexual exploitation in the town between 1997 and 2013.
The eight will be sentenced on Friday, 4 November.
