11 August 2005

ARLA FOODS UK PLC

Trading Statement

Further to the comments made at our interim results on 27 May 2005, continued
exceptional inflationary pressures resulting from higher oil and utility prices
are adversely impacting our margins. Market recovery of cost increases,
particularly in the middle ground, has been difficult in the short term.

To date, the effect of the second phase of CAP reform, implemented on 1 July
2005 and expected to impact on farmgate support prices by between five and seven
per cent, has been negligible.

Whilst none of these factors on its own would have a significant impact, the
combined effect is such that the Board anticipates that profits for the current
year will now be below its expectations. Although these cost pressures are
expected to continue some way into the next financial year, management is
putting in place plans to mitigate them.

Arla Foods will issue a pre-close trading update on 4 October 2005.

Oil surges above $65 for first time

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Oil prices raced above $65 for the first time on record on Thursday, as tightening U.S. gasoline supplies added to anxiety over refinery snags and stability of crude supplies in the Middle East and North Sea.

im not at all happy with the oil price rise. all my materials are oil based and have gone up 267% in 6 years. ( and that was when oil was 60$ a barrel. at this rate ill have to join all the other spongers on the dole.

belisce6 - 11 Aug 2005 17:57 - 8317 of 27111

wasn't really expecting much until earliest somewhere in late August
- i imagine the companies employees (including exec directors etcetc) will be taking some time off during these months, like the rest of us.

A reminder ....

"Stanelco is currently in discussion with a number of multi-national organizations to discuss the supply and usage of considerable quantities in the United States and worldwide," added Morgan-Fisher. "It will be a matter of weeks before we are in large scale production, as the material has performed so well on existing equipment during recent trials."

Starpol 2000 is the latest in a series of advancements into the packaging industry by Stanelco. Earlier this year, Stanelco introduced its GREENSEAL(TM) Radio Frequency sealing process. The process enables mono materials like APET and CPET to be welded without the use of any laminates, thus lowering the costs of materials by up to 25 percent. GREENSEAL also welds through contaminate, increasing the successful seal rate to 99.9 percent - virtually eliminating leakers in the case-ready industry.

The two technologies work hand in hand with each other, now allowing companies to explore a completely new arena for unparalleled success in MAP packaging. Stanelco is speaking with a number of major food suppliers in North America and the United Kingdom.

Hi All,

Remember, when you least expect it, a deal comes through, it could be Wal-Mart, or another USA major retailer for Greenseal, or it could be a big UK/USA TPS deal, or ASDA taking the PVA trays and film, or a Frogpack deal, or a Cradlewrap deal, maybe even an Air-Pillow deal, maybe some Phama Capsules via the Carlco JV.

Lots of products, lots of potential, lots of deals to wait for, and one could drop on the mat tomorrow morning, or any second after the open, right up to the closing bell :)

Cheers,

PM
