Seems that Digitalook have blown Birmingham out as far as Seminars are concerned, at least in Jan and Feb. this year.

survived87 - 24 Jan 2008 17:16 - 842 of 1427

I see Marston's are due to issue a Trading Statement tomorrow .....

Stan - 24 Jan 2008 17:43 - 843 of 1427

Yep. noticed MARS finished up over 10% today.

survived87 - 24 Jan 2008 17:52 - 844 of 1427

Stan - 24 Jan 2008 17:59 - 845 of 1427

They came up quite a bit this week Stan. Am thinking of adding a few small holdings of breweries/pubcos in certificate form. Maybe after a bit more weakness..............

Nice idea to have a jar this pm, but apologies for absence today I am afraid!

Council employees writing on Adrian Goldberg's The Stirrer website claim that:
* Staff at children's homes are being forced to use their own money to buy food for residents....
... Last night the council said Service Birmingham, the arm's-length company run by outsourcing firm Capita, which introduced the Voyager system on the grounds that it would make cash transactions more efficient, was working hard to iron out "glitches".

BIRMINGHAM today faces the spectre of black rubbish bags piling up in the streets and a city services shutdown as a strike vote by council workers is confirmed.

But on a brighter note:

Two of the world's best known banks are on the verge of signing a deal to open UK headquarters in Birmingham.

Should be allowed out again in about 2 weeks. Thinking of a meet up again towards the end of February.

Can't run far and would like a rendezvous with possibility of nearby parking, other wise open to suggestions. Time is fairly irrelevant.

Stan - 29 Jan 2008 11:37 - 850 of 1427

Good news Fred, Feb.18th (Mon) prefer afternoon but later if better for parking, again venue up to you (parking wise). Chris not available Weds (I think) me not Av.Tuesdays. Corgie does not like the evening. As an added benefit The Anchor's hosting the last day of their 4 day Beer Festival on that Monday -):

Other views please.

ED: In addition to the above I will be In Birmingham In the "evening" on the 3rd of March. from about 6ish until about 8.30pm.

Stan - 01 Feb 2008 14:52 - 851 of 1427

4 new people interested In our next meeting chaps, so need your thoughts on the above post please.

Fred1new - 01 Feb 2008 15:19 - 852 of 1427

Stan, For me the easiest pub is the OLD STOCK, but the pub you used in the next street seem OK as well. (Don't recall itsname) Time and date after 18th up to you and others.

Stan - 01 Feb 2008 16:23 - 853 of 1427

OK Fred I propose these "Two" meetings.

1. February 18th. (Monday) 1pm till when people want to go, at The Wellington, Bennetts Lane. 5 mins from New Street Station http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk. They don't do food but do welcome customers to bring their own. They supply knives and forks etc. Who ever gets there first try and grab a table in a quite area of the pub and put a Shares/IC or FT on the table so it's recognisable to newcomers.

2. March 3rd. (Monday) 4.30 till again, when people want to go at The Anchor, Bradford Street , Digbeth. 10 minutes walk from New Street Station http://www.the-anchor-inn.fsnet.co.uk/. Food served all day. Ask for the former No Smoking room.

So, one Midday Meeting for those that prefer the daytime at the current favourite pub The Welly and one early evening meeting at our original Hostelry The Anchor.

If you can't make the beginning don't worry just arrive when you can as we don't use an agenda...just remembered the meeting after Christmas was going to be a meal affair, shall we scratch that until another time?

All welcome.

Fred1new - 01 Feb 2008 17:51 - 854 of 1427

Stan, Happy to be at both, as long as hip behaves!

Stan - 01 Feb 2008 17:58 - 855 of 1427

Good man, look forward to it.

Fred1new - 05 Feb 2008 15:10 - 856 of 1427

What are you up to? It is very quiet.

Any views on banks. Keep on looking at them and then looking away again.

But dividends and P/Es look rewarding, but charts are horrible.

Forecasts are on old information.

Don't know.

survived87 - 05 Feb 2008 16:51 - 857 of 1427

Hi Fred.... Don't think todays US figures were too good and were below expectations:
The Institute of Supply Management said its non-manufacturing index fell to
44.6%, the first contraction since March 2003. The median estimate of economists
surveyed by IFR Markets was 53%. Reading below 50% indicate contraction.

So, good time to decorate again as gardening is out due to hail showers..... but then I suppose indoor bonsai is a possibility..... beats hari kari by share trading in present market...... if in doubt, stay out or put it all on a gee-gee at Ludlow tomorrow.

Fred1new - 05 Feb 2008 16:59 - 858 of 1427

I know the feeling.

Pull out of AQP and XTA earlier.

Looking or buy EZJ at lower price, might reduce the limit price,

Might consider shorting when I see the close to-night.

Don't wear out the brush.

talking of airlines..... see Silverjet's chart (SIL) ....

but on the good news airside:
US Airways today said its January load factor rose to 75.2% from 73.8% during the same month a year earlier.

but can't buy shares in this yet:
A British firm claims to have designed a hypersonic passenger plane that could one day fly between Europe and Australia in less than five hours.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/oxfordshire/7228341.stm

and also on the good news transport wise:
Part of the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) badly damaged in the summer floods will reopen on 9 February.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7216897.stm

haven't seem any updated info on start of the Wrexham - Banbury - London rail service yet

Stan - 06 Feb 2008 18:46 - 860 of 1427

With the Banks reporting soon I'm staying well away until more bad news is out of the way, that also counts for all the financials as well.

Where's Ian he hasn't disappeared again has he?
