The shop appears to have set up a local network without setting the security in the machines on the network, or at least not in PETERHARRIS's. What Windows do you use, and I can talk you through checking your own security.

Kayak

I am very grateful for the time you have spent helping me with this problem. You do this so often for so many people and it is not the first time you have helped me sort something out. It is much appreciated.

Regards
Rob

Robber - thanks for your suggestions. Looks like I need to make a phone call to my supplier!!

Robb - 16 Sep 2003 13:42 - 883 of 11003

Kayak - I'm on XP Home. Would it be okay to email me your phone number so I can give you a quick ring? Or we can continue here if you would prefer.

Kayak - 16 Sep 2003 13:44 - 884 of 11003

OK, have done.

Kayak

Just spoken to the shop. The "relay stations" that I mentioned include the boss who recently moved out of town and had this wireless broadband fitted. Looks like all the stuff I can see is his and his son's computers. Oooops! I bet it gets sorted double quick :-)

Regards
Rob

Kayak - 16 Sep 2003 14:35 - 886 of 11003

lol, I bet it will :-)

The Other Kevin - 17 Sep 2003 09:22 - 887 of 11003

I keep getting an error message which says that IE will have to close because of a fault in mshtmled.dll. I'm on Win 98 with IE 6. Any suggestions, please?

Spaceman - 17 Sep 2003 12:21 - 888 of 11003

TOK, could be this :- http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816506

Kayak - 17 Sep 2003 12:35 - 889 of 11003

TOK, have a wade through some of these and see whether any of them help...

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22mshtmled.dll%22&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&meta=

The Other Kevin - 17 Sep 2003 15:09 - 890 of 11003

Kayak - Thanks for the link. I had, in fact, already had a look at the Google references and couln't see anything quite relevant.

Spaceman - More thanks. Your link took me to an mshtml (rather than mshtmled) link but patch Q816506 seemed relevant. But after the Download up came a message saying that I needed IE SP1 installed first. However, the Service Pack is already installed together with another relevant file, Q813489. I'll wait and see what happens.

Thanks again to both of you. (Said in a whisper so no one else will hear: the problem does appear mostly when logged on over the road. And one of K's Google refs mentioned "Java rich web pages" Now, I'm a tech numbskull but those words did seem to strike a chord. Mmmmmm)

Spaceman - 17 Sep 2003 15:25 - 891 of 11003

TOK, sorry about that, not sure how I got that wrong, can you post the exact deatils of the message you are getting and I will try and investigate a bit more.

Have you updated your OS recently using Windows Update?

The Other Kevin - 17 Sep 2003 15:52 - 892 of 11003

Spaceman - Everything up to date. The message, now from memory, seemed the same as referred to in your link, except that the problem was with mshtmled.dll rather than mshtml.dll. I'll post again when (and if) it pops up again. Regards, TOK.

The Other Kevin - 18 Sep 2003 08:55 - 893 of 11003

Oh dear, there it goes again. "MS has encountered a problem with IE and needs to close" As before, the problem is with mshtmled.dll. At the time I was logged on here, over the road and was running a Synergy portfolio.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 18 Sep 2003 09:07 - 894 of 11003

TOK,

Find the file mshtmled.dll on your machine, right click on it and click properties.

You should see a version number and details of the DLL file. If you dont, then that DLL file is corrupted. If it is, then you can get someone to email you a working version.

Ive had similar problems with this in the past, and it was due to corrupted dlls.

Hi

Toshiba Tecra Laptop.

I don't know if this a problem, but there is definitely something wrong with my PC. I launch say Word (or any other app) and it will not start until I have managed to bring up the Task Manager, but I have noticed that my Secondary IDE Channel appears in the "safely remove hardware" box.

Or is it my RUND32.DLL file that is causing the delay.

Also running in processes I have a "backweb-7288971.exe" which I can not remember seeing before.

Any help appreciated as the delay in launching apps is most annoying !!

Peds

Pedro - 18 Sep 2003 10:13 - 896 of 11003

backweb is for Easy Share software so not a problem there

Pedro - 18 Sep 2003 10:38 - 897 of 11003

Checked Rundll32.exe and appears to be correct size etc. So is it all down to the Secondary IDE Channel ?

The Other Kevin - 18 Sep 2003 12:09 - 898 of 11003

TullettJ - Thanks for the guidance. Checked out the file's properties and they seem ok. Mmmmmm?

Optimist - 18 Sep 2003 12:31 - 899 of 11003

Are there any Outlook 2002 experts around?

In the Tracking Options I have checked the never send a reply in response to read receipt requests.

However, I have just discovered that if a spam mail is permanently deleted by one of my filter rules then Outlook sends a Deleted - Not Read receipt. This was not only confirming the email address to the spammer but the receipts header also contains my default email address, the name of my computer, the name of my ISP account and the currently assigned IP address. Outlook does not keep a copy of this receipt.

Can anyone suggest a way to: -

1. Stop Outlook sending these receipts? (I have already changed my rules from permanent delete to delete)

2. Is it possible to limit the information sent in an email header?

3. Is there a way of making Outlook store copies of receipts?

Kayak - 18 Sep 2003 12:34 - 900 of 11003

Optimist, strange, but you can always change the rule to put the messages into a separate folder and then delete the messages once in a while. That is better anyway in case your rules catch a bona fide message.
