I dont believe this, one of my monitors has gone off, the power light and display of the monitor is not working its one of three plugged into my new 2 week old graphics card

Any thoughts what the proplem could be?? HELP

MightyMicro - 07 Jun 2011 00:31 - 9463 of 11003

RG69: With what you've told us, it's impossible to be sure. But it sounds like the power to the monitor has failed. This may be (a) the power supply to the monitor, (b) the fuse in the plug on the monitor's power supply, (c) a disconnection between the monitor and its supply (is it an external power supply?). Sorry, not enough information to make more intelligent guesses.

Richgit69 - 07 Jun 2011 08:58 - 9464 of 11003

MightyMicro, its a seperate powersupply 95% sure (in a wheelchair cant get full access), but the computer still thinks its there has it put all the icons and extends the display to it so very difficult to see anything am doing even trying to set my monitors up to use only 2 that I can see, This is not the first time Viewsonic have done this must have had 3 in the last 2 years, but not the power light going out, display not working but power light stays one

Having an intermittent problem with Powerdesk Pro 6 file browser. When I close it the window disappears but the process remains active within Task Manager. If I try to open it again nothing visible happens but another process is added in T.M. Only by ending all these processes can I open a new window.
By the way I have been using this same copy on numerous HDs and operating systems for years. Problem has only shown up when I moved HD to newly built pc. O.S. is Win7 ultimate. Eveything else is running well. Have uninstalled several times, removed all references in file system and registry before reinstalling but nothing helps.
A solution would be great or can anyone recommend a good, free file browser?

Just placed an order for some ink for my Canon MG6150 printer. Compared to PC World, these guys are a heck lot cheaper. I'm sure the cartridges will be fine. Will update here when I receive the ink.

Haystack - 07 Jun 2011 13:25 - 9467 of 11003

Try these

http://www.7dayshop.com

They are also in Guernsey and often 1 or more cheaper than the other Guernsey place. Very good for USB memory and other bits and pieces.

jonuk76 - 07 Jun 2011 13:27 - 9468 of 11003

iiwarm, perhaps that version is not compatible with Windows 7? You could try running in a compatibility mode (right click the program icon, choose properties and the compatibility tab) and try say Windows XP mode. But you might need to update to a later version.

iiwarm - 07 Jun 2011 14:42 - 9469 of 11003

thanks Jonuk
should have mentioned that I'd tried that in xp and win98 modes. Didn't help :(
Thought I'd cracked it with admin rights ticked but that didn't last either.

Have been running this version on 2 different HDs for months without a problem and no change to compatability so mystified why it should have stated now.

Recd. my ink cartridges from SimplyInkandPaper a few days ago. The cartridges were pretty much on their own in a thick brown envelope. I wonder how the company can be so sure that they wouldn't get damaged during transit. However, the cartridges seem fine though I've not yet had to install them yet. Saved at least a tenner in all, compared to PC World!

Richgit69 - 14 Jun 2011 13:28 - 9472 of 11003

OFF TOPIC (might be)

Dreambox 500s (satellite reciever)

Anyone know how this is connected to the internet and how does it work for updating codes setup etc. need very basic instructions for a OAP to understand
Tried forums/websites but you need to work at NASA to understand what they are saying

ExecLine - 14 Jun 2011 13:52 - 9473 of 11003

Dreambox?

'...to understand what they are saying...'

First off, it sounds like you might need need a good Glossary. Check this one out:-

http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/

Next, here's a Guide (a PDF download to save and possibly print off) for the 500-S :-

Skinny, Google search results in.. not much! A link to a page showing the Inspiron 580 on the Dell outlet site, and a few parts suppliers.. I've never heard of those abbreviations.

It's describing the optical drive. I think HH could be half height (slimline), MOD could possibly be something like "multi optical drive". I'm fairly sure it's just a bog standard DVD writer though.

Richgit69 - 14 Jun 2011 14:35 - 9475 of 11003

ExecLine, thanks ;-)

Cheers Jon - having spent 25 odd years in IT, I thought I was pretty good at decipehering acronyms :-) I've just been to PC world to have a"real" look at what they have to offer - how things have changed. They can't seem to get their head round the fact that I don't want any monitors - I don't want a terrabyte of disc space etc etc. Rant over - good job I don't have a dog anymore otherwise........

Richgit69 - 16 Jun 2011 10:55 - 9477 of 11003

Just installed a new 24" Benq monitor so back to 3 monitors now, but the monitor keeps flickering on and off and says "Input DVI" when it come back on it only a few seconds but really annoying, would might do this??

Seymour Clearly - 16 Jun 2011 12:45 - 9478 of 11003

Loose video card or loose cables I would suggest.

Richgit69 - 16 Jun 2011 13:59 - 9479 of 11003

Seymour Clearly, Thanks

I moved something around in the back and for now its settled, just wish I knew what it was

Seymour Clearly - 17 Jun 2011 07:06 - 9480 of 11003

Still on my mission to upgrade my graphics to twin monitors. I'll need to upgrade my PSU to something like 500w (currently only 180w); as I have twin SATA HDs and a SATA DVD writer do I need a special PSU for SATA? I saw one PSU that mentions SATA and it's got me thinking.
