Yep, I suspect you could use a half height card.

Here's the specs -
http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf
From the specs, the "desktop" and "small form factor" cases allow a half height PCI-E graphics card. The "ultra small form factor" case does not allow any cards to be fitted. The one on Amazon looks like the desktop case.

I don't see why not. Personally, I'd prefer one with a
Core 2 Duo rather than a Pentium D. It's a later processor that uses less power, generates less heat, and is faster (despite the lower clock speeds). But that's just me being fussy, I expect it would be fine :)

That's the problem Jon - I always start (with anything) looking at the sensible/minimum to fulfil the requirement and end up buying anything but!

chuckie, that's a real problem for lots of folk. It seems to need a BIOS correction, but that comes with it's own problems. Seems people just keep trying other batteries until one works, but with Acer there is another problem....."some acer laptop internals, especially the models that have acer's quick charge technology require batteries that can handle the rate of charging......", so with generic batteries you may find that they don't comply. Not much help I'm afraid, but seems the help forums are full of people with the same problem!

Do you have the XP Pro disc? (or just an upgrade copy?)
If you have the disc then it should have a utilities menu (if you go into the contents on the disc) and you should be able to format the hard drive. This will erase any copies already on the hard drive and also any data relating to the computer identity/key for the Windows copy.
If not there are plenty of free formatting software programs which can be downloaded by a friend on to a disc and then used to wipe your hard drive. You should then be able to do a clean install from the Windows disc, but all data will be lost and also all software updates you have done, though these can be easily reloaded from Microsoft.
I am assuming your ordinary XP is not a genuine copy (drivers missing) so there is probably an identity key corruption? Not sure if the XP Pro drivers will automatically load XP Home either. I assume you have tried pressing F8 button on start up to try & boot up in Safe mode?

I think only if your default browser is Chrome.
