i dont know if its a coincidence but a mate told me a few weeks ago to keep an eye on sbry.i didnt think much of it then but a week later read an article in the daily mail suggesting that a deal would be announced shortly which would involve a recently listed co AZMAN(AMAN).watching with interest.

Well, it's been on the cards for a while - just hadn't quite known when all the bid spec would be revived. It was a nice-little-earner for a time last year. This was released today:

Sainsbury says can't comment on market speculation
AFX

LONDON, Aug 28 (Reuters) - British retailer J. Sainsbury's said on Thursday that it could not comment on market talk of bid interest in the supermarket group.

'We can't comment on market rumour or speculation,' a spokeswoman for the company said.

Earlier, shares in the grocer had jumped after traders cited market talk of bid interest at 500 pence per share.

Cynic: are you tempted? - I think I could be!

Guess Sainsbury will have to follow suit....

Tesco said it will slash prices by 50% in the latest round of discounting to hit the retail sector.

The supermarket chain said the sale, which starts on Friday, would focus on Christmas essentials and gifts.

Britain's biggest grocer said it was cutting prices early on around 1,000 items in response to customers' reluctance to purchase items which would later be discounted.

Commercial director Richard Brasher said: "Some say that a bit of the pleasure they usually get from buying gifts has gone in the current climate.
