I knew my eyes did not deceive when I watched Harbinger destroy the field in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth at Ascot setting a Course record time of 2m 26.78s
let us remember he won by eleven lengths on that day in Julyand the manner in which he passes his Group1 rivals will remain with me foreverthe run was remarkable but looking back it is now likely that his win was the greatest performance of all time
The second horse on that day was Cape Blanco who went on to win the Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes by 5l from Rip Van Winklea three times Group 1 winner himselfand Workforce was a further 5l behind at Ascotit is no coincidence that Workforce went on to win the Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe yesterdaybeating the best aroundHarbinger was rated at 135...the same as Sea The Stars a winner of all his nine races bar his debut at the Curragh but could only beat Rip Van Winkle a length in the Coral-Eclipse last year before going on to win the Archow far would Harbinger have won the Arcand what would his rating have now beenwe will never knowbut I believe him to be the best off all time
