How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

Scripophilist - 27 Oct 2004 23:40

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

JeffI have quickly looked at Graylyn Rubyslightly put off by changing surface from his last run/winnormally has a big effect one way or another on performancestill make Ruby a 6/1 chancemy best value in what is a very difficult race to assess is Swordsmanwithout much confidence this 8 year old has been hurdlingchasing.and running on the flatis tongue tied and visored all within the last six weeksnot a path recommended for successbut at around 17-18s has run on firm ground three days ago and showed a little promise I believe this to be around an 10/1 shotI hope your selection wins as I wont be involved in the raceIt could easily end up favourite?

jeffmack - 17 Jul 2010 12:44 - 10482 of 10502

Actually I also like swordsman, so might have an EW on it

The Ultimate Big Brother Winner could see a tasty big price opportunitythe odds on fav. Brian Dowling is 30/100...I just cant see him winning even though he is being touted as a bankerI have some nice bets on Chantelle Houghton @ 17...12.5...and 8s.I also have some not so good bets on Prestonher ex. Husband@ 60...100and 110...
Prices at this moment are 7.2 Chantelle and 200 PrestonBrian is 77% of the bookif he was to throw a wobbly or at least lose some popularity the odds on my selections would look very tastyI think Chantelle will win anyway there must be a good trading opportunity on my two in this weeks final please dyor.

Looks like Betfair might float very shortly, although the papers say this every month !

I posted this on the NOWT thread even before the Xfactor live singing stage on the 5th Octoberand while they were still at the judges houses

tabasco - 05 Oct 2010 09:24 - 9589 of 10179

Cheryl Cole... who I love has had a mad moment. She has picked a Train Crash and left out the certain winner... and I am very rarely wrong... Gamu Nhengu would have won the competition... know doubt about that.. and the X-Factor/Cheryl Cole will end up with egg on their face...
Gamu Nhengu will be snapped up by another producer and thats for sure... In her absence 1 Direction will win and Matt Cardle will come second...that will now be the result. The real winner Gamu Nhengu has been mugged!
I have judged the competition on talent... and nothing else....Cheryl Cole has judged on emotion. Big mistake!!!
Sorry... but i am sad and love these shows...
---------------------------------------------------------------
These kind of shows with a little research can be very profitableI have traded Matt and One Directionand now have a good profit with free bets running on both.Matt is now only available at 1.81 = 4/5 and One Direction 3.5 = 5/2 either one will add the cherryOne Direction would be my best result
Anyone thinking of having a punt tonightI would saysave your moneypretty open between all threeand no value left in the fav

I never posted this upso you will have to trust mehad it off on Stacey Solomon in the Junglenice?

Also loaded up on Arsenal at 8,10 and 12...trading at this moment at 5.1.I have small bits on Liverpool from 16.5 to silly oddsand I mean silly tradable odds
The lucky thicko is never wrong

A Sleeper FTO a good stock pick waiting to explode dyor! Just a very small ramp there Dil

tabasco - 12 Dec 2010 23:35 - 10493 of 10502

I dont have a bad record for a lucky thicko...lol

tabasco - 23 Jan 2011 12:50 - 10494 of 10502

Arsenal now trading at 3.7 = 11/4.have only Man Utd. to beat.this is Uniteds worste team for a number of yearsadd to thatit is also their oldestChelsea are in the same problematic period!

To finish this season well with the aged squad they have.. will be virtually impossibleArsenal.. my large traded bet [tabasco - 12 Dec 2010 09:44 - 10491
loaded up on Arsenal at 8,10 and 12.] is still good value!
Man Utd at 1.74 = 8/11 should be that price to get through the season without having to take a Saga holiday!

This year >
Edwin Van der Sar 40yo
Gary Neville 36yo
Patrice Evra 30yo
Owen Hargreaves 30yo
Rio Ferdinand 33yo
Wes Brown 32yo
Michael Owen 32yo wnekra
Dimitar Berbatov 30
Ryan Giggs 38yo
Ji-sung Park 30yo
Nemanja Vidic 30yo
Michael Carrick 30yo
Paul Scholes 37yo
John O'Shea 30 yo

Man Utd That dont have the kind of money to spend...that some other Premier clubs havewould be lucky to get 50ml the lotDarren Bent just sold for over half of that food for thought?

ptholden - 23 Jan 2011 13:24 - 10495 of 10502

Utd sell two of the best players in the world, Tevez and Ronaldo, but still top of the league and unbeaten in the Premiership. If this is the worst Utd team in years, it doesn't say much about the rest.

Incidentally, Scholes, Owen and Neville are but squad players, Hargreaves will probably never play again.

You fail to mention the Rafael twins, Hernandez, Rooney, Anderson, Nani, Gibson, Smalling etc.

Giggs is universally recognised as the consummate pro and has still plenty to offer for at least another season.

In any event, for defenders, 30 years old is the age where experience counts.

I'll think you'll find in most positions Ferguson has younger versions lined up and ready to step up. I think he'll add a world class midfielder during the Summer.

Utd still have to play some big games, City, Chelsea (x2) and Arsenal which will go a long way to deciding the title. We'll see.

tabasco - 23 Jan 2011 14:43 - 10496 of 10502

Peternot disagreeing all that much with your viewtwo valid points are >

Utd sell two of the best players in the world, Tevez and Ronaldotrue

You fail to mention the Rafael twins, Hernandez, Rooney, Anderson, Nani, Gibson, Smalling PeterI thought it was obvious I was highlighting the depth of the squads main players were 30+

My point is that a large proportion of a title winning team has either goneor coming to the end of their sell by date
Utd would not ask big figures for these old playersto enable them to get a dealpot gets smallerthe younger players that you have mentionedhave not been proven winners as yetDanny Welbeck was going to be the new GiggsI think he is now on loanRooneys is turning into a good midfielder? lol And some of your other young names are struggling to shineArsenal look the better all round betI was offering my advice on value alone
As alwaystime will be the judgealthough my investment has been quite tasty!

tabasco - 23 Jan 2011 14:45 - 10497 of 10502

BTW .my team is bottom of the league.so I am talking from my pocket!

tabasco - 06 Mar 2011 16:25 - 10498 of 10502

Peter...I have an uncanny knack of being lucky...Arsenal are now 2.88 or in Latin 15/8...I am showing a substantial profit with a bet still running for almost free... and taking into account my Liverpool punts...btw thank you Liverpool...the joys of being a lucky thicko!

Dil - 10 Mar 2011 01:08 - 10499 of 10502

Funny how gamblers only remember their winners ... your horse selections on here have been crap tabby :-)

tabasco - 10 Mar 2011 08:42 - 10500 of 10502

Dil...I see you need a little education....first point I am not a gambler I am a Bookmaker...this is the definition of a gambler...take a risk in the hope of a favourable outcome

Let me give you an example...Spurs are in vogue so we will use them as an example... Spurs had secured only two points from the first eight games a couple of seasons ago...Harry came along and was blasted by everyone...Im sure Flasher will back me up lol...

tabasco - 21 Aug 2009
Good morning all>

"As we start a new season with the usual high expectationsI thought it would be interesting to breeze through some of last seasons postsI did not realise I was so severely blasted for predicting Harry would sign Defoe.or Defoe would be proved our best goalscorer.or Spurs would finish well above Pompeyand go onto far better things under Harry even though they sat at the bottom with just a couple of pointsmaybe when I said Harry is the best English Manager about"

Yes Dil I did have it off on Spurs with Betfair...

Now let me defend the horse selections you claim are crap...show me a post where I ever give tips?...I have always stated selection are for value only...to be traded...most races I have traded down and get a run for free...if it wins...bonus time...my selections based on value have been fantastic...my records show this as fact...Dil...I am not a financial advisor...I am not a tipster... although my record on AM is exceptional...even though I dont like sharing my hard work/play with lazy gits...you are a good accountant...stick with that!
