panto

Try here: http://general-changelog-team.fr/en/downloads/viewdownload/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner

The Download button is pale lime green, has an arrow aiming downwards and is labelled 'Telecharger (download)'

This version is actually AdwCleaner v3.022.

As usual when doing downloads/installs, do take care on what boxes you tick and as a general rule, don't install anything other than the program itself.

Once it's up and running, do a Scan and it will check out Chrome, IE, Firefox browsers for you. It's simple to use. And you can clear out any crap that it finds, if it actually does find any, quite easily.

Italian student has now gone off to the public library to do research (student start time is usually about now!) and also to find out if her laptop can access their WiFi. I expect the whole of Norwich to be blacked out any time soon.

I see Orange/EE have had yet another extensive outage over the last 24 hours, which isn't helping my diagnostics either! :o(

Doc,

The surgery doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'll be asleep anyway, and I'll be sure to tell 'em which knee it is beforehand. What bothers me is the rehab which is meant to be really hard work and last between 6 and 9 months.

Haystack,

I've already got a pukka hinged knee brace for ACL problems that I use to ski and play tennis. I don't have any issue with core strength as I've worked hard on my quads and all the surrounding muscles over the years which compensate for not having an ACL. The problem is that you come back after a few hours and, not only is the thing saturated with sweat, but you're also left with massive red compression marks where the thing has been so tight that it's cut off half your blood supply.

The other problem is that there's an underlaying instability which manifests when you don't expect it. I can be standing still and twist very slightly and my knee will just give way and I'll collapse in a heap. It only happens once every 6 months or a year, but it's not particularly nice (and a bit embarrassing if you're out at the time).

Out of interest, Hils, and you are probably insured anyway, what's an op' like that cost?

Of course, there are other costs too other than the surgeon's bill, but I got to turning the question round, having watched the animation, and wondered what I would want to charge out for doing, and being able to do, operations like that.

hilary - 26 Mar 2014 10:29 - 10546 of 11003

About £5.5k, Doc, but I'm not covered and my husband doesn't know that he's paying yet.

:o)

ExecLine - 26 Mar 2014 10:50 - 10547 of 11003

That's just about 1 yr's IT Fees for the household + side perks. So you're worth it, I'm sure.

:-)

For all you whimps still scared to use :-

Windows XP users face end to Microsoft support

HARRYCAT - 08 Apr 2014 08:04 - 10549 of 11003

I don't think most machines with XP on them will run 7 or 8, so it's not just a matter of upgrading the software. Can't decide whether to buy a PC, Laptop or tablet, but think PC is my preferred option.

Balerboy - 08 Apr 2014 08:48 - 10550 of 11003

Join the government harry..... they're still on XP, along with 50% of the country, skinny got nothing else to spend his dosh on.......clever clogs.,.

skinny - 10 Apr 2014 06:44 - 10551 of 11003

I've just spent the last hour trying to disable Avast, which had gone rogue after a recent update.

It was taking 100% of the CPU on bootup and ignoring all attempts to disable it.

After many restarts I finally managed to uninstall it.

Anyone else had a similar experience recently?

HARRYCAT - 10 Apr 2014 08:20 - 10552 of 11003

I did have that problem quite a few months ago and had to uninstall Avast. However you need to go into Program Files and manually remove the few remaining files otherwise it seems to resurrect itself at a later date! I use Microsoft Essentials now on both machines as have had problems with both Avast & AVG. Also tried Avast on mobile but it slowed everything down so much that I uninstalled it.

skinny - 10 Apr 2014 08:26 - 10553 of 11003

Harry - I've reinstated essentials and run a full scan - it found PWS:HTML/Phish.gw !

I run Avast on my mobile with no obvious detrimental effects.

Thanks for the heads up - I'll check for residual files.

klal - 10 Apr 2014 08:31 - 10554 of 11003

Skinny, I would run a scan with the freebie version of Malwarebytes. I've lost count of the number of times it's helped me restore friends/neighbour's machines back to sanity after some severe infection.

skinny - 10 Apr 2014 08:37 - 10555 of 11003

Thanks Klal - running it now!

Plateman - 10 Apr 2014 08:38 - 10556 of 11003

Skinny, I use IObit Systemcare in conjunction with Malwarebytes (paid realtime version) and am very pleased with them. Systemcare comes with a very good uninstaller that removes all the bits.

skinny - 10 Apr 2014 08:44 - 10557 of 11003

Thanks Plateman.

Malwarebytes found 11 items, which I've quarantined for now.

Balerboy - 10 Apr 2014 08:48 - 10558 of 11003

best to keep off those dodgy site skinners.,.

skinny - 10 Apr 2014 08:51 - 10559 of 11003

I don't do any of that BB.

I read that as "doggie" :-)

Balerboy - 10 Apr 2014 08:53 - 10560 of 11003

lol........or that!!
