How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

Scripophilist - 27 Oct 2004 23:40

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

I'll probably be sacrificing horses again this afternoon to focus on the football.

Last night was excellent with a win on every match. The bonus was the Porto Vs PSG match where I had a bumper win, my biggest on an individual event for some time. I didn't plan it that way it just turned out that the perfect result came in. Usually it would have been covered for a lesser amount at some point. I had some free money to put on the match and added to that as the other results completed. Turned out I didn't need to cover it in the end but took a risk in not doing so. If it hadn't had come in I would have been up on the night but not much.

Scripophilist - 03 Nov 2004 14:37 - 127 of 10502

I would have thought Deportivo vs Liverpool would be an interesting match tonight.

Bobcolby - 03 Nov 2004 19:09 - 129 of 10502

Scripophilist - 03 Nov 2004 19:46 - 131 of 10502

Sure one on the way. Haven't forgotton your request by the way. Haven't had time to look at it.

Scripophilist - 03 Nov 2004 19:48 - 132 of 10502

Green on all the CL matches tonight except Dinamo vs Real where I expect to take a loss unless Real lose.

Will be trading the Man U match.

Scripophilist - 03 Nov 2004 20:05 - 133 of 10502

A perfect start so I am finished for the evening. Dinamo are 1-0 up as well so maybe lady luck is smiling on me at the moment.

No activity today as I am in the city from dawn till late. Back to business tomorrow.

Scripophilist - 06 Nov 2004 15:24 - 137 of 10502

Been a good week. Green on all the premiership this afternoon. Only liability is Norwich vs Blackburn which I am looking for Norwich not to be winning by half time. A fortunate position on Spurs and early goal for Charlton means an unexpected result has come in there.

Did less talking and more doing yesterday and today so feel a bit happier. BB's can be very distracting at times!!

I will show you some of the postions I have taken this week during the course. You should be able to understand by the end of it how and why I have done it.

Scripophilist - 06 Nov 2004 15:28 - 138 of 10502

Ruth, In answer to your question much early. I turned 2.3k twice. If you drop me an email I will send you the P&L for that event. I had to trawl through around 14 pages to find it!!!

Mr Euro - 06 Nov 2004 15:47 - 139 of 10502

Dil, yes still got everthing!

Scripophilist - 06 Nov 2004 15:51 - 140 of 10502

Incidentally a good opportunity for the quick thinkers this weekend. When Santini walked out on Spurs this week you would have guessed the odds on Spurs would drift. So I took a position on Spurs as soon as the news broke, Covered the position before kick off.
