FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

lost my "dinner" back and rather more more last night, so very silly me :-(
if i'd paid attention, i would have shorted when 16020 was breached sharply, but that is still prob a good bet i'm afraid

Well done Shortie - R U expecting a bounce - or are you just takiing your profits off the table

halifax - 26 Jan 2014 18:42 - 14090 of 21973

place your bets FTSE down tomorrow?

cynic - 26 Jan 2014 20:02 - 14091 of 21973

that's surely a no-brainer initially - at least 60 points and then perhaps to 100 as forced selling takes place .... but after that, it'll be interesting

bhunt1910 - 27 Jan 2014 07:59 - 14092 of 21973

Well its recovered 80 points so far from its friday night low of 6535 - the open will be interesting - but I reckon it will continue to slowly recover.

Bhunt - A bit of both really, quite keen to cash in some profits and also take money off the table... Have a look at Skinnys daily chart above, FTSE has been bouncing off the 50dma line for some time now and the MACD triggers have become directionless.

skinny - 27 Jan 2014 10:30 - 14094 of 21973

Having a look at the 200.

cynic - 27 Jan 2014 10:40 - 14095 of 21973

looking at skinny's chart, the implication is that at least a bounce is imminent ..... except that most will be governed by the behaviour (position) of standard FTSE

What a "balls up" created by the Shadow Chancellor

skinny - 27 Jan 2014 10:49 - 14097 of 21973

I know he opens mouth to change feet quite regularly, but even he couldn't cause this correction fall.

An interesting view if you are looking at 3D.

i already hold DDD though it's a bit scary and there is an argument that it is currently o'bought .... however, there is no question that this is a very important development/concept for the near future
