Eldest daughter's hair clogging up the mouse again. Do I shut down the computer to deal with it or risk accidental deleting something important by fiddling with the mouse with the computer on?

Questions and dilemas
Socs is very jovial today, and good morning to all. Just finished a bit of bricklaying before it started raining.

Jovial, that's me.
Mouse, switch off just to be sure if you are worried, but I've never had a problem. Long term answer, get yourself an optical mouse, no problems then.
I feel peckish, I think I'll scoff a tin of baked beans.

If I need a new mouse I get one from work, no need for cleaning.

Nice and tidy in here, not surprising as no one has been in after Socs, and I'm sure he is not a messy person, even though he likes sherry trifle baths, especially if someone else is at the other end of the bath :-)) Just have a cup of tea and a few minutes, see if anyone else is about.

Great result to the share game, it was quite fun and I learned a lot. I'm grateful to my supportive team and am pleased that we agreed on a strategy that, given a couple of weeks more, might have put us up there with the leaders.

Morning all. Clitheroe was great. Haven't had time to read all the posts but just in for a quick coffee.
Fundy - did you get the house?
Opto - the one message "preached" at Clitheroe was USE STOP LOSSES AND ONLY EVER MOVE THEM UP, NOT DOWN! Guess what I am going to do this morning...
The North Westers gave us great hospitality, so thanks to all of them. Good to put faces to names.
Hope the kids had a great party choccie and that you are back home safely, amber.
Stockbunny, champagne in your orange juice this morning, you did us proud as captain of the Ladies Team or should I say ladies plus one male now that we have met maggiebunton. :-))

Opto - they were keeping the stops VERY tight. The only percentage mentioned was by Sputnik who said you should never have it greater than 1%/2% max of your total portfolio, but when I thought about it later, that could be a big drop depending on portfolio size! He also stressed using trailing stop losses but only going upwards, never moving down (which I do). I agree with you that I have found so many times it has triggered when I don't want it to and that is why I have become so casual. Then again, I am sitting on some pretty big losses, naively confident that they will come back up (or more likely be sold at end of tax year!). I have also had some go through stop losses on profit warnings and didn't know you can pay a bit extra and have "guaranteed" stop losses so they will compensate if it drops further. All of the speakers reiterated the same message, get out if it is dropping.
I have known for some time my own portfolio is too unwieldy and I think the experts are assuming fewer stocks over a short/medium term so it is easier in that scenario to get out quickly and reinvest. Course was very professional, I would recommend.

I should also have mentioned the focus totally was on using charts and recognising patterns and points of resistance/support, so you would set your stop at the turning point. This I do!

jj Thanks again. I have the same tendancy as you, to hold too many stocks, and I don't think we are alone here!
Two camps I believe I investing: Spread your investment in a lot of stocks or invest in just a few and monitor them more closely. I am tending to favour the second scenario, but it can take a while to consolidate to this position particularly when waiting for some to recover(LOL) but that is the way I intend to move in the future, decission taken only last week!
Now for a large pot of tea.
