How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

The site is currently splashed due to ongoing caching software issues. We are working with our software suppliers to get this rectified as quickly as possible. However, in the meantime we have taken the decision to remain offline until we are confident that the issues are fully resolved.

We will update this page with more information every 30 mins or when the situation changes.

18:10 GMT We have now rolled back to an earlier version of the caching software. We are confident this version will improve site stability.

"Following some further internal testing we plan to unsplash the site with the next 20 minutes."

Site appears to be much more stable today. Unfortuntely I have committed to looking after the kids so probably no chance for me to do anything today.

Harlosh - 05 Mar 2005 15:39 - 1585 of 10502

I had a slight problem when it appeared to hang for several seconds. Caused me a real fright. Otherwise OK.

Harlosh - 05 Mar 2005 15:40 - 1586 of 10502

You'll have to pay a babysitter Scrip. Much cheaper than lost opportunities.

Scripophilist - 05 Mar 2005 15:48 - 1587 of 10502

A PDA with GPRS is a good half way house!

Harlosh - 05 Mar 2005 17:03 - 1588 of 10502

A useless, overpaid bunch of primadonna's.

Scripophilist - 05 Mar 2005 17:44 - 1589 of 10502

Never mind Harlosh there is still the FA CUP. Just got to get past Southampton first!!

Our heavy layer is back on the footy. 662k available to back Chelsea at 1.10-1.12

Scripophilist - 05 Mar 2005 18:41 - 1591 of 10502

Here is the answer to your problem:-

That's if the Betfair ever works again. I notice it is down again this evening. Completely offline.

jeffmack - 05 Mar 2005 18:56 - 1593 of 10502

Script
That works a treat, thanks

DocProc - 05 Mar 2005 20:16 - 1594 of 10502

The technological demands to run Betfair completely reliably must be enormous.....but well worth the investment.

Can they get the staff? I don't think the head honcho is up to the job. If he can spot this fact himself then there's hope.

Fundamentalist - 06 Mar 2005 16:27 - 1595 of 10502

Hi all

been away overnight - is betfair still playing up or is reliable again?

went to Doncaster races yesterday - had 5 winners out of 7 - some days it pays to be a gambler than a trader lol!!!

chartist2004 - 06 Mar 2005 17:38 - 1596 of 10502

Everton v Blackburn - Anyone back 0-0 @ 9.4 now 2 to lay...!

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 10:00 - 1597 of 10502

That was curious, FSTE Intraday 9-10am. Just messing around in there and saw FTSE UP as low as 1.10 but never far from parity so laid a chunk.

Fundamentalist - 07 Mar 2005 14:05 - 1598 of 10502

Scrip

the 14.10 at hereford, there is odds on offer of 1010!!! thought 1000 was the max - how is this done

Harlosh - 07 Mar 2005 14:37 - 1599 of 10502

Some strange activity on the races today.

Scripophilist - 07 Mar 2005 14:44 - 1600 of 10502

1010 = Foreign currency fiddle I think.

Was some very weird movement on an earlier race. I've been doing OK apart from the first race.
