FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

was too busy on the phone and missed taking a ftse profit (have left running) but now have modest long in dow which is just in the money

i wonder if today will be like yesterday with dow .... hairy scary, but plenty of opportunities to make money in both directions

======

prob end up trying to be too clever by half :-)

The DOWs your baby, I don't tend to play there and don't follow it...

Shortie - 14 Jan 2015 10:13 - 17383 of 21973

6468 I'm out again.. mixed signals

Shortie - 14 Jan 2015 10:15 - 17384 of 21973

6469.8 short again. 6475 resistance noted..!

cynic - 14 Jan 2015 10:43 - 17385 of 21973

i'm going to the gym shortly so shall almost certainly close one position
my inclination is the ftse short which is currently in the money, though not by much, as i think dow shows more profit prospect

The man of the moment!!

Leyton High Rd. eh? As he only gets a 3 hour lunch break that should be just the job.

The menu actually looks quite good..

Shortie - 14 Jan 2015 11:47 - 17396 of 21973

6435 position closed.

cynic - 14 Jan 2015 13:06 - 17397 of 21973

sod's law .... should have closed long dow and left ftse short running ..... hey ho

Shortie - 14 Jan 2015 13:25 - 17398 of 21973

I should have left the short also but had to pop out.

cynic - 14 Jan 2015 13:37 - 17399 of 21973

complete bloodbath at the moment, probably and primarily on the back of JP Morgan's further $1bn set-aside for fines

=============

DOW
should have support at around 17340 or perhaps as low as 17300

however, on yesterday's and indeed today's performances, neither supports nor resistances have had much meaning

cynic - 14 Jan 2015 14:00 - 17400 of 21973

i have bravely or foolishly (shall let you know!) opened another small Dow long at 17373.4
