Telecom Plus' chairman is 400,000 better off today after selling some shares; meanwhile a trio of shrewd investors are hanging on to their stakes.
Peter Nutting offloaded 100,000 shares on Thursday at 402p each, banking 402,000 in the process. However he does still hold 851,700 shares or 1.4% of the 240 million company (TEP).
He was joined by fellow non-executive director Dominic Wheatley who sold a more modest 25,000 shares at 402p each, banking 100,000. Wheatley has 243,060 shares left.
Their double sale has depressed investors a little and Telecom Plus's share price slipped by 2.5p to 401p on Friday. Its share price growth has been phenomenal over the past two years, rising from 84p in early 2002 to an all-time high of 408p earlier this month.
Citywire tipped Telecom Plus in May 2002 at 109.5p so Friday's closing price represents a 266% gain in less than two years. We have already advised investors to book some profits but hold on to a residual stake and this remains our advice as the company still appears to have some way to go.
Three top investors obviously share this view as they are clinging on to their stakes. New Star's AAA-rated Patrick Evershed, Dan Nickols of Old Mutual who replaced Ashton Bradbury at the turn of the year on the Old Mutual UK Smaller Companies Inc fund and Carl Stick of Rathbones are all continuing to hold Telecom Plus in their funds.
Telecom Plus' simple yet effective strategy is to sign up customers as agents who pass on the good word to friends, family and colleagues in return for a small fee. As the company has expanded from telephony into gas, electricity and internet services so its customer base has steadily swollen.
In the first half of the year it signed up 26,000 new customers to take its total to 160,000, double the number of new customers from the previous year. This helped turnover rise by 46% to 37.2 million and pre-tax profits by 96% to 4.9 million. With just 160,000 customers Telecom Plus has a lot of the country to go at yet and few are willing to bet against it at the moment.
cheers GF.

Hmmm... any thoughts from you more experienced holders why these continue to drop?
I'm holding for the long term, but curious about the downward movement.
Thanks

Ive been told its because of the lack of news of late. The results are out soon and if it follows the path of success as it usually does we should see a flury of activity around that point.

Bad day all round Mark, looks like this one being a high bets as triggered a lot of stop losses. Correction in the US market the Yanks went to far forward too fast.
Wouldnt worry too much, we will probably pull it back in the next 10 days.
cheers GF.
