Nice to see the Jocks having a laugh - British vermin of the highest order.

Re: Penalties - As any footballer/fan will tell you there really a lottery/nerve test. Statistically we've had such a bad run that the tables will turn eventually.

As many have noted England aren't the team that the media/armchair brigade have painted. Those that can hold their heads high include the Evertonian, Cole, and Neville, but as a Chelsea boy I for one do not want Gerard at the Bridge. Too many wasted passes imo, and yesterdays midfield was absent. (Lamps with Gerard).
Hopefully Sven will learn not to rely on Heskey, and persist so much with an out of form Owen/Beckham - although both will bounce back.

And whilst the sweaties are enjoying their moment can I remind them of Euro 96, when they both lost the match, having missed from the spot.

"Nice to see the Jocks having a laugh - British vermin of the highest order"

Oh really....you are a sad ignorant peasant...many of us have very good friends from south of the border and I for one was not laughing at the elimination of the only British team in the competition. Why don't you slink back to the gutter from whence you've come.

daves dazzlers - 26 Jun 2004 13:27 - 165 of 189

bye/bye,france.

brianboru - 26 Jun 2004 18:22 - 166 of 189

Flackwell - The reason I find it difficult to support England is the yobbish culture which surrounds English football (soccer) - You won't see the often nasty and violent sort of behavior from The Scots, Irish, Swedes, Dutch or anyone else in Europe even though they are just as passionate about both their country and their national team. Why the England team (and some English league teams) attract so much tatooed dross is beyond me but they do and it puts me off them.

Anyway, back to serious matters. Come on Van the Man. Hope they get through tonight and had a tiny bet on them.

You are not quite right there...the dutch fans have got a pretty bad reputation for violent behaviour in the past, although as always it is a tiny minority. Interestingly there is very little trouble these days in English soccer, only abroad where the foreign police don't know how to deal with it, and it is nearly always away from the stadiums. A case of alcohol fanning the flames of nationalism.

Which raises a rather big question...is nationalism/patriotism a good thing, or does it simply serve to divide people, although perhaps Euro 2004 has bought them together ?

See my predictions are doing well. If denmark win tonight that will be 0 out of 4. Best I stick to shares!

Flackwell Vialli - 28 Jun 2004 19:51 - 170 of 189

Drinkgood - Perhaps you ought to talk to a few of your fellow Scots who reguarly in the past used to come down en masse to London, smashed out of their skulls. Having attended a few Eng V Scot games I have seen at first hand the politeness/ettiquette of those proud to sport Tartan.

I also note that you think Football hooliganism is confined to the English - Perhaps you may recall for example Celtic fans (Scots ? Irish ?) returning from Europe, or Holland as another poster has pointed out plus many other club sides from such countries as Turkey, Germany, Spain and Italy.

The Scottish also frequently resort to the usual anti-English nonsense such as asking for their own parliament, then denying us our own, claiming the oil fields are theirs, when for years Scotland has sucked money from us in the south to pay their social security bills, etc etc. Perhaps that is why the English now proudly display the St Georges flag, rather than associate themselves with the Union Jack.

any body else waiting to collect there loot?

scotinvestor - 29 Jun 2004 12:50 - 175 of 189

as for oil fields, well its international companies with foreign people including us scots that help to make oil money. Having said that, all the money is sent down to westminster.

i've never felt it for last 2 or 3 years but i do think Scotland should become independent.

FLACKWELL - 18 per cent od my country is now inhabited by u engl;ish and at work (i've worked for several companies) i seem to be surrounded by them. Cant get away from them it seems.

Anyone that knows anything about scotland knows that all the scots are leaving in their droves from scotland. its just asylum seekers and english left just about

any intrest in tonights game portugal/holland,i hope van the man draw`s a blank.and portugal win.

joehargan1 - 30 Jun 2004 20:59 - 178 of 189

Portugal really deserve it after reaching the last 4 in Belgium and going out unluckily to France. They have the flair and the desire.. Holland look very ordinary despite their players...not played as a team this tournament. Mind you still gubbed us scots 6-O.at the Amsterdam arena. I was at that game and found myself sitting next to Colin Hendry (ex Blackburn and Scotland)...he's now just a regular fan and travels (in a kilt and tartan bunnet) everywhere with the Tartan Army. Anyway stick to the football on this thread you guys and just remember that we Scots are only down in England for one reason..it's all about improving the gene pool.

daves dazzlers - 30 Jun 2004 22:03 - 179 of 189
