FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

SA whites and indeed nearly all their reds you can keep
this US one isn't bad - Jordan 2012 chardonnay
bought it at the dubai duty free on the way in ...... drinking here at hotel prices is just silly money .... a bottle of beer costs £7/8

=============

i've come across a couple of very respectable Italian whites of late and just bought something quite expensive from Argentina
this will need keeping for a few years, so a bit of a leap of faith

I thought he was going green!

patshere - 04 Dec 2015 14:30 - 19023 of 21973

He will do after the first 100 lashes.
And if he tells them he likes drinking Italian whites!!
'They' will go green.

a greater puzzle for you to ponder :-)
DOW has recovered 200 points since yesterday, and comfortably back over the important 17575/17600 levels
FTSE continues to tumble, not even making an attempt to break back above 6300
compare and discuss!

I'm watching cynic ,have no sure answer to that as it's all Euro indices must be the knock on from yesterday , Dax/Cac the same , i'm thinking xmas bounce back ?

I'd like to add to that ,Oil hitting new lows dragging oil shares down with it ..

cynic - 04 Dec 2015 15:31 - 19026 of 21973

if one puts FTSE fall down to end of week closing, then it raises the interesting thought of running a FTSE long until at least DOW closes
does that make sense?

============

money with mouth ...... small long at 6242
we shall see :-)

jimmy b - 04 Dec 2015 15:52 - 19027 of 21973

Can it fall much further ? came off a total of about 250 points from yesterday

cynic - 04 Dec 2015 15:54 - 19028 of 21973

dow did some very strange things yesterday, but currently +240 while ftse is -55

jimmy b - 04 Dec 2015 15:59 - 19029 of 21973

FTSE ran opposite to DOW twice earlier in the week as well .

Stan - 04 Dec 2015 17:09 - 19030 of 21973

Back from lunch, what very strange market movements Dow and Footsie I mean.

cynic - 04 Dec 2015 18:56 - 19031 of 21973

cashed in at 6275 (+33) as really have no wish to stay up until 01:00 local time, especially as clients to see tomorrow

Stan - 04 Dec 2015 19:02 - 19032 of 21973

cynic - 04 Dec 2015 19:08 - 19033 of 21973

i don't want a bunch of migrants trying to join me :-)

in honesty, i wouldn't come here on hol, or not unless someone else was paying!

.

cynic - 05 Dec 2015 12:55 - 19035 of 21973

i am keeping my fingers x'ed - as can't hold my breath that long - that monday will not bring a swift reversal of what was seen last night

FTSE pressing on through 6300 and holding would be a starting relief, but i'm not convinced it'll happen

DFGO - 07 Dec 2015 11:39 - 19036 of 21973

can anybody give current price of OEX and AEX they do not appear to be working
on ADVFN the whole thread seems to be repeating for some reason.

many thanks DFGO

DOW looking very soggy and dull
any half-hearted rally back over 16,700 is short-lived and then back down again 40/50 points
now bedtime over here, but it sure doesn't look too good for the morning

jimmy b - 08 Dec 2015 14:06 - 19040 of 21973

Carnage !!
