Mayflower Action Group

hangon - 21 Sep 2006 16:07

Mentioned in Shares this week, but no contact address, email etc... someone must know.

Mayflower was an engineering company engaged on at least two exciting fronts - installing wind-farms in the coastal regions having paid a fat wad for a ship to be built in China (was it?) it only managed to dock in Rhyll, I understand.
Also they had a variable-volume engine design that meant a 1.5 litre engine could be enlarged to 3 litre when needed ...achieving economy and having power for those few times it's needed - with applications in transport particularly.
Claims ranged in size from hedgecutters to Ships - wow and I believed it!!

They didn't notice that there was no cash in the bank, until one friday afternoon, so they closed the shop.
Needless to say everyone was surprised, as they'd been telling all and sundry everything was going to plan...until the truth came out, that is.
What a way to run a business - why didn't they ask for more cash? Offshore wind-farms were all the rage just then, IMHO. Who got the ship, or didn't they pay up-front....questions and too few answers I guess.

Action Group... please let's hear from you...

Double Grr.

hangon - What does Shares mention? Mayflower actually made buses up in Scotland before going into administration in March 2004. John Major (ex PM) was a director.

To date, this was my biggest loss ever.

There was an action group set up, but it seemed to dwindle away after a year or so.

I still have it bookmarked and looked it up about a month ago to see if they were still alive - there was no new news.
