In the US tonight, according to preliminary calculations, the Dow gained 93.58 points at 11,669.39. The Dow's advance put it within range of its high of 11,722.98 set in January 2000.
The S&P500 rose to a five-and-a-half-year high, increasing 9.97 points to 1,336.34 and the Nasdaq Composite 12.27 points to 2,261.34.
In Asia today, the Hang Seng ended the morning up 127.65 points at 17,435.73, while the Nikkei was recently up 272.44 points at 15,829.89.
New York's main oil contract, light sweet crude for November delivery, was up 31 cents at $61.32 a barrel.
