Mike Ashley, the billionaire sports retailer, cost Sports Direct shareholders up to 200,000 when he resorted to using a game of spoof to settle a disputed bill - and lost.

Mr Ashley proposed the game of spoof after failing to agree on who should pay legal fees incurred by Merrill Lynch in connection with the Sport Direct flotation. The game of chance is hugely popular with City traders.

Good morning traders!

In Asia today, the Nikkei ended the morning session 33.90 points higher at
17,992.78, while the Hang Seng reached the midpoint up 212.95 points at
20,815.82.

New York's main oil contract, light sweet crude for July delivery was 40 cents
lower at $64.68 a barrel from $65.08 in US trading Friday.
