President Obama cleared the biggest hurdle in his fight to push through his $827 billion economic stimulus plan after winning a crucial vote in the Senate yesterday. Needing 60 votes in the procedural ballot to cut off the debate on the Bill and to thwart any Republican blocking tactics Mr Obama got 61, winning the support of three moderate Republicans. The Bill will now go for a full decisive Senate vote today, where again a 60-vote majority will see it through.
