Bank Preference shares or PIBS?

brianboru - 07 Aug 2009 00:12

Are there any discussions on here regarding the high yields that have been (and perhaps still are) available on LLOY and RBS preference shares or building society PIBS?

CollinsStewart have a weekly list for instance,

This weeks list and a rare chance to tie up some long term high yields.

The yields are high because of the risk of default, but I guess you don't need me to tell you that :-)

Why I have a preference for prefs

For the last six months, Ive been circling around prefs, Pibs and PSBs. These are the confusing acronyms and abbreviations given to the preference shares issued by banks, the permanent interest bearing shares issued by building societies, and the perpetual subordinated bonds issued by former building societies.

They are all bond-like investments offering a fixed-income coupon, and they can be bought and sold at any time through a stockbroker.................more...

The FT's Adventurous Investor is well followed by PIs so we could well see some extra interest on Monday.
