The US labour market continues to stagnate with few positive signs, following news that the private sector shed 23,000 jobs in March.

Moodys on Wednesday downgraded the deposit and debt ratings of five Greek banks, citing a weakening in the banks stand-alone financial strength and anticipated additional pressures stemming from the countrys challenging economic prospects in the foreseeable future.

Particularly vulnerable are Japans numerous technology companies, whose expertise and proprietary technology form the silent story behind the success of much larger names, such as Toshiba, Canon and Honda. Hundreds of companies listed on Tokyos bloated stock exchange are trading below the book value of their assets.

Good morning traders!

In the US last night, the Dow lost 51 points at 10,857, the Nasdaq fell 13 points at
2,398 and the S&P500 eased 4 points to 1,169.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was up 144.42 points at 11,234.36, while the Hang Seng
ended the morning ahead 200.36 points at 21,439.71.

Crude oil traded at $83.22 a barrel on Nymex.
