but what chance of them being granted licences to drill and even if they are, in what time frame?

Crikey Cynic.....in a situation as early as this....there is not much time to think....as it is : it's a punt with massive upside it seems...an investment risk...but there are a lot of buyers...

I can say that there are further upgrades on the way....perhaps not as spectacular as this last one but the sp should get further boosts...

By the way....a lot of the reds will be blues.....always the same in speculative situations....

I've taken a punt...perhaps a bit more....oil retrieval techniques are improving ....anyway...much prefer Gatwick to Heathrow.....(don't fancy drilling on the runway though)....

On a serious note....an on-shore oil discovery of this potential in southern England is great news for the economy....

Yes your right except it's very near Brighton so expect that silly green cow who has basically ruined Brighton to be running around shouting blue murder ..

UK oil producers are celebrating what they are calling the biggest onshore oil discovery in the last 30 years in the land near Gatwick Airport.

An exploration firm (UKOG) has confirmed the land under Horse Hill near Gatwick could contain 158 million barrels of oil per square mile – up to 100 billion barrels in total. The firm is hoping it could meet between 10 per cent and 30 per cent of UK demand for oil by 2030.

58442 - except that (a) they don't yet have a licence to drill, (b) do they even have the money to drill in the event that they ever a licence (months and months away, if not 1/2/3 years in any case), (c) the notional reserve is nowhere near proven, (d) even the company admits that only between 3 and 15% of any reserves are likely to prove recoverable
