Back in Time - Monticello and Martin Offiah

Bullshare - 18 May 2016 15:38

Turning the clock back to 2000 anyone remember Nick and Hoot, Martin Offiah , someone's sister, a car and Monticello ;-)

From Daily Mail

What is the biggest investment mistake you’ve ever made?
I have made two. The first was investing in a company called Monticello during the dotcom bubble. I lost £45,000.
The second was investing in property off-plan in Spain, the Dominican Republic and Morocco, just before the 2008 financial crisis. The properties never got built and I lost about £200,000.
I have learnt over the years that the stock market is linked to everything. You have ups and downs, but you can’t avoid investing in the stock market. Even if you put money in property, you are still invested in the stock market because property prices are linked to how the stock market does.
That is why you should never move far away from a balanced investment portfolio, or invest heavily in a single company or a single sector.
Instead, hold for the long term and spread it about. That way, if one thing does badly, then hopefully, another thing will do quite well – and you will be all right.
