spoke too soon Skinny. Bit of a frustrating day here, although financial outcome ok considering performance of FTSE.

Good morning all.

After yesterday's sell-off we start again today. IG are calling things up at the moment but who knows if it's a bit of a relief rally or something more permanent.

And so Skinny I note you've put a counter on the header page which by implication tells me the number of PI's involved in shares has collapsed over the last 20 years.

Out of those 100 views so far I guess 10 are mine. Maybe 20.. I would be lost without the thread as I find some of the links really helpful.

But what are we to do. Ok for the five of us or so that come here regularly we will keep going but trading shares isn't fashionable any longer.

I went down the pub the other night with a friend of the wife's who wants to sort his retirement pot. He proposed splitting into some lumps, mostly funds but he was absolutely determined to put a percentage of his pot (which he doesn't really have enough of to retire yet) on etoro, the rationale being that if he spread it between the best 10 traders, the law of averages would see him a really great return.

My point being really that it's no surprise there is so little interest in shares if we have reached the point that even 60 year olds about to retire think a good place to put their precious pension pot is on crypto.

Am I like a dinosaur bemoaning the end of a great era? Perhaps.

Perhaps the issue is that for the last 10 years you would have required some skills to make money from stocks in the UK. Not alot of skill if your timing of your entry was good and didn't overtrade but some skill nevertheless. Not quite the same as our American friends who apart from the last 6 months you could have invested your money in any stock you liked and probably made money as everything goes up over there.

And money makes money. If you've made money as the market is going up, you carry on investing, your pot gets bigger, even if you take some out, your pot can get bigger. Over here, the FTSE hasn't gone anywhere for 10 years. You might have got a steady stream of dividends but there aren't thousands of PI's investing as making great returns hasn't been available to the PI with average skills.

Oh well. Back to investing. I need to figure out what to do with my trade on Severfield, SFR. Been in it for nearly three years for a return of 24% plus a small dividend stream. I keep reviewing it and keep coming to the conclusion not to sell. I don't have an exit price though and I always have an exit price, even if it's stupidly high. I guess that answers my question. I'm not ready to sell yet.

Now if someone could kick the arse up LLOY and MARS. There I do definitely have an exit price. Somewhere between 65&66 on LLOY and 102 on MARS

skinny - 26 Jun 2018 14:04 - 15 of 39

CC - when I took over this thread from Greystone, it was already used far less than 10-15 years ago.

I recently stopped starting a daily thread on both boards as it was clear that MAM couldn't give a damn about it anymore - on the last few occasions I've been on Holiday, I've asked them to start the threads - something they agreed to do, but didn't - so why should I make the effort to post early every morning.

I now just start a weekly thread on this board, but don't do the early morning update as it is so under utilised - something I'll continue to do so the links will always remain.

As I've mentioned previously, I bought MARS in 2011 @93.47 and sold a third @164.28 in 2013.

As for LLOY - lowest price paid 24.48 - highest 75.04p I still hold the shares, but frequently S/B them.

My best performing shares this year are probably SEE & TCN, followed by BP.

Skinny and CC.

I think many look in on this thread, but "feel" inadequate to make "sensible" comments.

Also, in general interest in this type of website varies with the market.

Many posting on the ups and sh themselves on the down and keeping quiet.

I know I was doing very well until Jan 2018, but the last 5months has been sideways and the last month down.

I have been looking at the charts on many of my holdings, many with the note to sell some.

I wish I had.

I think the investors are nervous and hope that by being silent won't be noticed.

Maybe the market will recover.

Skinny.

Keep the good work up, the thread is of interest to many.

CC - 26 Jun 2018 15:09 - 17 of 39

Hi Skinny,

Your efforts are very much appreciated. I'm very happy to post it the weeks you are on holiday if you can tell me how to copy the script in. The only time I tried it when you were away and MAM couldn't be bothered i didn't go so well.

We've discussed LLOY to death anyway. It's only my CFD's I want to shift. The rest I'm pretty much happy to hold forever.

Same with MARS really. I've collected a load all sub 100 recently which I'll keep long term. Again just want to shift my CFD's. 102p will do me on these. I've already sold a few at a profit.

Last year was great for me. Amazing. This year I'm just bumbling along.

Best trade of the year for me is PCF which is up 40%. Everything else is unremarkable apart from INTU which isn't going so well compared with year end.

I have high hopes for CTO and NMD at the interims later in the year.

It would be really helpful if the government could move a little quicker on Brexit. The uncertainty is dragging everything down.

Or if Trump could stop escalating trade wars that would help too.

CC - 26 Jun 2018 15:19 - 18 of 39

We've got 36 viewers but only about 5 posters so that means there's 21 people who view but don't post.

Unless of course it's an IP tracker and it's counting me multiple times from different machines?

skinny - 26 Jun 2018 15:57 - 19 of 39

Fred - I'm guessing that most posters on MAM are of a certain age, also guessing that at 60 next year, I'm one of the younger ones :-)

I'm currently mulling over the PHNX rights issue, which if I take it up in full, will make them my biggest holding by value after BP .

CC - I can send you a file next time I'm away if you are interested.

Let's do that then Skinny.

I claim the spring chicken prize at the age of 51 ;-)
