News Headlines:    US Stocks closed down after investors were confronted with poor retail sales figures and mixed data on the job market.

BAT Anti-smoking activists filed suit on Thursday against BAT's Canadian unit, Imperial Tobacco Canada, claiming the company misled consumers about the health dangers of light cigarettes.BP, SHELL Oil firms may be affected by a rise in oil futures after news of tighter crude stocks and an explosion on a U.S. warship in the Middle East.House Of Fraser Several newspapers reported in their market round-ups speculation that Scottish businessman Tom Hunter would turn his attention to the department store if he wins battle for control for Selfridges . BAA This year's late Easter boosted passenger numbers by 1.6 percent in April to 9.9 million. But taking March and April together, traffic fell 0.8 percent. North Atlantic traffic slumped 5.4 percent in April and other long haul traffic was down 7.5 percent, hit by war in Iraq and SARS. Heathrow traffic was down leading to Speculation of a further fall in BAY long haul loading.
