Definately a no-no, why should we when this country is still a main target for outside investment.

If they did all not have the Euro, the Euroland central banks could hold reserves in each other's currencies, rather like the Far Eastern countries are planning to do. By having the Euro they leave themselves more exposed to the dollar, paradoxically.
The four and a half million German unemployed cannot be left out of the argument. What madness permits this in a country which was formerly the gleaming growth engine of Europe? The social security is generous I understand, but creates intractable budget problems. It's a Mexican standoff where the ECB will refuse to reflate until there is labour market reform, but the German government is not permitted to cut taxes on labour because that would worsen the deficit. No we will do well to stay out IMHO.

PAtrick,
The German unemplyment figure, if calculated using the old method, would be closer to 7 million!
They are in a real mess, and the ECB is not helping them.
This illustrates the main problem, IMHO, and I for one am happy being on the outsife looking in, until common sense prevails, at least.
My personal opinion is that TB has been promised President of Europe if he can deliver UK in to the Euro.
You have to ask why they seem so desperate for us to join?

No not now and not in the future.
Blair will try and stitch up a yes vote with the support of multi-national companies with vested interests.
It will never work

Out of Europe and a tie up with the US is the only answer- same language, same traditions, even some good genes still about.

Toni (Lionel) Blair, and Gay Gordon on TV, when they were asked-by surprise- if it was true that they had an ` arrangement`that Blair would hand over the PM`S job to Gordie and take up the Presidency of the EU when the time was ripe.
The interviewer then froze the frame at the point the question was asked-
WOW-the fate of 60m people in the UK became obvious at that nano-second- neither of them gives a fcuk about anyone but themselves, whether in or out of the Euro currency, Blair can still be Prez and Gordie PM.
Self Centered?- thy name is New Labour, what a bunch of barstewards, in fact taking that analogy to eXtremes Prescott for PM

This whole 'Euro thing', in it's ENTIRETY is quite simply a cynical manipulation of us plebs. It is now and forever will be just a never ending gravy train for the blokes who's ONLY hope, (but definite ambition to achieve), of any kind of 'grandeur' in a pseuedo business field, is to get in, then ride, the political gravy train. Sure, there are a few 'businessmen' in there who MIGHT do well on their own account in civvy street, but there are MANY more, well qualified or not, who would be eaten alive in business, where performance is readily measured. They know this to be true and so tell us lies to become our political 'leaders' and then do just the same as every other politician/beurocrat, tell us one thing then do the other. Have we forgotten so soon how our MP's voted themselves a fantastic salary hike? Do you imagine THEY will worry about their pensions ? Nope.
If and WHEN the 'Federation' of europe dawns, lots of the buggers, (and their whole departments) will be unassailably appointed and we wont be able to do a thing to stop it all.
Socialist? Moi? nope, a conservative (usually...) but as it said on a tee-shirt I once saw, "Same trough, different snouts", says it all really doesn't it.
We should ditch the euro, europeans et al and simply TRADE with whoever. At least we can kick out our own politicians now and then, not that we are any better off with the substitutes, but it does give us a certain "good riddance" cheer up doesn't it. Try getting rid of a 'euro directorate' !!
