Perhaps I misunderstand but I get the impression you say the shares moved from
16.38 to 16.44.
I checked Centrica/CNN.L and states price as 188.50.The company is in the
Gas and distribution business.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. The 16.38 to 16.44 were the times stock traded i.e. four individual trades for 1 million shares each trade between those times. Late reply owing to just having returned from 'work' nasty word must try and eradicate it!

Now (today) 4 * 1 Million share trade (Sells) in a similar time frame. Anyone have any thought on this?

Hi Optomistic,
I would have been delighted - if I had time - to give an opinion.
However,I will not because of the aggression and personal insults i.eBollocks
said to me on another share.

That is certainly a comment I would not appreciate also. However don't let peoples aggression get you down. Let us have your opinons, that must surely be what this website is about.

Optomistic, centrica are into a lot more than gas distribution. They aim to be a "one stop" for the home i.e. telecoms (OneTel), gas, electricity, they own (I believe) the AA (automobiles!) (or was it RAC), so have a lot going for them imho, however the share price tends to languish. Worth pickin up as a safe stock if they drop off but not the most exciting one to own. Oh, and personally I would ignore those trades - I really doubt they mean much - today's total volume 22 million or so.
All imho, dyor, nag, etc. However, your post has reminded me what a nice share they are to trade in their narrow range using one of the spreadbetters or cfd providers so I might watch them for a bit. Thanks, & best of luck.

How ironic really that this thread gets re-born almost exactly
a year from its original starting date!
OK CNA at this stage - any opinions?
The group has further diversified since, recently bought Dyno-Rod
if memory serves me correctly. I am going to check if buying in
now does qualify for the divi due shortly but aside of that the
usual divi doesn't seem bad either..

Don't forget that there will also be a share restructuring and reconsolidation - 10 existing shares become 9 new shares. So expect the share price to drop by (at least)10% accordingly.

Stockbunny: All you need to know
(14 Oct 2004)
Centrica completes sale of the AA
Centrica plc today confirmed that it has completed the sale of the AA to a
company formed by CVC Capital Partners Ltd and Permira Advisers Ltd, as
announced on 1 July 2004.
This follows receipt of all regulatory clearances from the respective bodies in
the UK, the Channel Islands, Ireland and the European Commission.
A circular will shortly be posted to shareholders setting out full details of
Centrica's proposals, also announced on 1 July, for a special dividend and
accompanying share consolidation.
Payment of the special dividend is conditional on shareholder approval for the
share consolidation, which will be sought at an extraordinary general meeting.
Details of the meeting will be included in the circular.
The intention is to return a total of not less than 1.5 billion to shareholders
via a combination of the proposed special dividend and a rolling share
repurchase programme which is already under way.
The proposed special dividend amounts to approximately ten per cent of
Centrica's market capitalisation as at close of business on 30 September
(adjusted to take account of the interim dividend of 2.5p per share), and will
total 1.058 billion, or 25 pence per share. The proposed share consolidation
will similarly reduce the number of Centrica shares in issue by approximately
ten per cent, on a basis of nine new shares for every ten presently held.
The expected anticipated timetable for the extraordinary general meeting,
payment of the interim dividend of 2.5 pence per share, declared on 29 July
2004, and payment of the proposed special dividend is as follows:
Wednesday 20 Oct 2004: Ex dividend date for interim dividend
Thursday 21 Oct 2004: Extraordinary general meeting, 10am, at the Ibis London
Earls Court Hotel, London, SW6 1UD.
Friday 22 Oct 2004: Record date for interim dividend, proposed special dividend
and proposed share consolidation
Monday 25 Oct 2004: Ex dividend date for proposed special dividend and first day
of dealing in new ordinary shares
Wednesday 17 Nov 2004: Payment date for interim dividend and proposed special
dividend.
