How to Get turned on by taking Control........................ (MEC)

hawick - 31 Mar 2004 11:57

I promised some time ago an occasional set of stocks for you from the Ofex market. Pleased to say my first two picks are both up around 15-20% so far. I know some of you, despite the imminent arrival of competitive market makers, are still sceptical of the market so this is probably not for you, but if you like a potential rocket stock then you should at least take a look.

Mechan Controls makes a dull as dishwater product - (so it needed a raunchy heading!) - electric safety switches for the food processing and pharmaceutical industries, but is a company going places. Their stainless steel product is unique, says the company, and there are plans for a patent which as a result has helped the company win distribution agreements with the likes of Norstat in the US. It is a nice earner into the bargain and among their client list are Tate and Lyle, Heinz and Nestle.

The company weas the subject of a management buyout in 1999 after thirty years or so in business now they are profitable they are in a position to expand and are considering acquisitions. There is less than 100k in debt in total and their distribution agreement with US giant Honeywell gives them access to 95 countries worldwide and a 100 million marketplace.

They said this morning that they are announcing a 'maiden' dividend and when results come out confidently expect to 'meet or beat' expectations.

As with all ofex stocks it is illiquid - big director holdings here - and the main challenge is to increase turnover, but the distribution agreements should improve that - and to see off the competition of which there is some, but their new stainless steel product gives them an edge in that area too.

With a market cap of 1.6 million the balance of risk is hugely in our favour. Floated only a few months ago, this is a great chance to get in ahead of the pack.

Results which we already know are going to be good, should be out by 20th April. Still a great chance to get in before others wake up to this one.

Whats this company all about,a lot of trades and very volatile.

HARRYCAT - 24 Nov 2008 14:26 - 5 of 18

"Mecom Group plc ("Mecom") is one of the leading European newspaper and content businesses. The Group owns over 300 titles in its five divisions, with substantial operations in the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Germany and Poland, together publishing approximately 30 million copies a week and attracting approximately 18 million unique website users per month."

If you like trading penny shares, then might be worth looking at. Otherwise, I can't see the attraction.
