LONDON (AFX) - FuturaGene PLC, formerly OverNet Data, said Cantor Fitzgerald acquired 2,568,000 shares in the company, equivalent to a stake of 8.52 pct.

Futuragene enters research funding agreement with Indiana University

LONDON (AFX) - Futuragene PLC said it has recently entered in to an agreement with Purdue University, Indiana to fund further research.

This is in line with the group's plans made at the time of its admission to AIM in May when it said it was actively pursuing a major research and development programme to significantly increase the portfolio of intellectual property which it licenses.

The grant with Purdue University, which amounts to just over 1 mln usd is to support the research of Professor Paul Hasegawa and Professor Ray Bressan into the discovery of genes controlling abiotic stress tolerance, especially research involving exotic stress tolerant relatives of Arabidopsis such as Thellungiella halophila.

This is part of the company's work into creation of plant and crop species capable of withstanding extreme environmental conditions.

The Company's AIM listing will be cancelled tomorrow (14th july 2010).
