Any one got the unfortunate experience of dealing with browser
hi-jacking on Internet Explorer by spydeleter? If so how did you
remove the problem? Is there a free download spyware for IE specifically?
as my AOL spyware doesn't seem to be getting rid of it.
Already downloaded from spy warrior and it's not going away....

Have you tried Spybot or Ad-aware? Free to download and they seem really good to me.

Will check them out - cheers gavdfc - do you know if they are
'strong enough' to knock out this spydeleter thing?

Run each of the above programs to get rid of any spyware or ads.

These are the links to the free downloads from download.com. I use them both every few days and they seem to work for me. To be honest, i've never heard of that spydeleter thing you mention, but hopefully the above 2 programs will help you.

I also use Spywareblaster. It protects your pc from known spyware, stopping it getting onto your pc in the first place. Also free toy download.

I've having problems with 180searchassistant

Deleted registry entries, blocked it on my firewall, deleted suspect files but still it keeps coming back. It's a mare. I halt it on start up now but can't figure out how to eliminate it.

Currently downloading spybot search and destroy - only another 55 mins
to go according to the download box - sometimes I do wonder if it would
be worth going over to broadband!

Tried the spyware Dr - over 313 'infections' and only cure is to purchase
software...that will be a last resort. Seriously considering ditching
Internet Explorer frankly as I use AOL exclusively, the kids use the other
one though....all good fun on a Monday afternoon!! (a weak lol)

Stock - Spybot or Ad-aware should help you out. I find the benefit of looking for spyware with both of them is that if one doesn't pick something up then the other one should. Both of them regularly update and the updates are also free to download. I check for any updates before i scan my pc.

Personally I wouldn't bother buying any piece of spyware software, the free one's work well enough for me. I use all 3 of the freebies and regularly check for windows upgrades, especially the critical ones as I've been told that many problems occur via "holes" in Internet Explorer.

Scrip - I've had the same problem for weeks on my XP pc at work - I've tried everything, but the real Mr Nasty is hiding in the registry, so it keeps coming back with every reboot, to the point where windows open without me doing anything at all, and virtual memory's all but disappeared. I just haven't had the time to reinstall, which is now the only answer. I can't read emails, and certainly don't dare trading from there. The most difficult thing about the original installation was setting up the broadband - and bt said it was a doddle...I don't think so.

Ad-Aware is a usefull tool, removes data miners, may not solve your problem chocolat but worth installing. Free download, got mine by entering Ad-aware on Google. Run it at least once a week, surprising how much it picks up. Any Q's see you in the T Room 'over a drink'

I have use Spybot and Pop UP Stopper for 2+ years. Solved a lot of problems in conjunction with Antivir AvGuard. All free programmes taken from CD on Computer MAgazins. Have been free of problems and they can be updated on line for free.

Try Mozilla Firefox (www.mozilla.org) as your browser - also Mozilla Thunderbird as email client - claimed to be more secure & faster than IE - both are free
(believe Firefox is a development of the orginal Netscape Navigator

My gosh, I was full of spys till I used Spybot and ad aware as suggested earlier.

Thanks to those who gave these out as recommedations.

I will try for a while and if things stay sweet, I will send the developers something or buy the full programs.

Glad to have been of help to you all. Can't recommend enough using both Ad-aware and Spybot. They pick up loads of stuff, mostly tracking cookies but also the nasties which cause serious harm. Would also highly recommend using Spywareblaster as well as the 2 other freebies. Again, its free to download. It runs in the background on your machine, sort of like a firewall and stops about 3000 odd known pieces of spyware/dialers etc getting onto your machine. The updates are free to download and it updates every few fays or so.

Scrip/Chocolat - it does sound as if that nasty is stuck somewhere in your registry. When you delete it manually, it sounds as if it's not being completely deleted. So when you start your machine again it's still there. What may help is deleting it the way you do, restart your machine but start it in safe mode then try finding it and deleting it in safe mode. Then switch back to normal mode and see if its still there.

Another spyware removal tool thats useful is Bazooka. Use it myself and find it handy, free to download and use.

I've found a way of riding myself of the immediate menace by running MSCONFIG and finding msbb in the "hidden" startup and knocking it out.

Spybot on its own simply does not eliminate the hijack - since when I've tried numerous others (at least I've been forced to learn about my pc, even if I do want to kick it) but I shall certainly follow your suggestions, gavdfc and Scrip - thanks - before my pc gravitates to its final death throes.
