Traders Thread Friday 20th August 2004 (CROC)

Martini - 19 Aug 2004 21:16

Martini - 19 Aug 2004 21:16 - 2 of 18

In the UK the FTSE 100 closed off the best levels for the session following this afternoon's opening retreat on Wall Street in early trading.

The FTSE 100 index closed up 7.4 points at 4,362.6, off an early morning peak of 4,381.4, with the broader market also closing higher.
Activity was thin; a meagre 2.0 bln shares changing hands by the close.

In the US Oil finally got to the Markets in early trading as yet again it rose and a 4 day up trend was broken as traders succumbed to worries over the effect of oil prices on a the economic recovery. However despite September crude rising $1.43, or 3 percent, to close at $48.70 and the Dow dipping below 10000 intraday the Markets closed well off their lows for the day.

The high light of the day had to be Google, which debuted well above its $85 launch price when it began trading on the NASDAQ exchange at around midday EST. The Internet search engine ended the day up circa 18% close to the $100 mark and over 20m shares traded. Now thats a lot of dosh changing hands.

I wonder how many searches they had today with Google Share Price?

The Dow closed down 42.33 at 10040.82
The S&P closed down 3.94 at 1091.23
The NASDAQ closed down 11.48 at 1819.89

If anyone has any idea where the UK will go tomorrow youre a better man than I.

Good Hunting
M

Nobody ever knows for certain, Martini, or there would never be
any losers. ;-)

But how about a repeat of Wednesday, until 1330, which would involve
some messing about circa 4330/4360 which just happens to loosely tie
in with the PP and S2?

Depends how the Australasia guys trade overnight and take the US futures
for where we open and with what sentiment, I guess.
Unless of course terrorists blow up an oil refinery or..... etc..etc..

Good game, this guessing the future, what? :-)

Melnibone.

Melrose Finds More Gas In Egypt And Ramps Up Production Offshore Bulgaria

There is a story but too long for this thread.

I sent you an email

seawallwalker - 20 Aug 2004 07:57 - 8 of 18

There's no rns on it!!!!

Big Al - 20 Aug 2004 08:08 - 9 of 18

sw - RNS came out a few days back. Pure chart play after some weird goings on with MM's yesterday. Small and highly speculative trade, but I'm becoming bearish on these little oil stocks. Many are now failing to break new highs.

Top picking isn't usually my thing, but have followed a lot of these stocks for months so testing out a pattern I see.

Sputnik - 20 Aug 2004 08:49 - 14 of 18

Big Al

I agree on the small oil stocks BUR has traded sideways for 7 weeks and even the last bit of news on CNE , didn't keep the price momentum going for long.

Big Al - 20 Aug 2004 08:50 - 15 of 18

Sputnick - last MRS news did little and JKX just can't find its way past 130p.

Ain't putting the kitchen sink on them, but nibbling!

Sputnik - 20 Aug 2004 08:55 - 16 of 18

Just sold BUR

seawallwalker - 20 Aug 2004 08:56 - 17 of 18

Big Al.

It is the smallup and down movement which has allowed a small profit with me.

MRS will give us notice of results soon too.

I was sure you had seen the info, but better safe.........

Big Al - 20 Aug 2004 10:01 - 18 of 18

sw - got a tight stop! ;-)
