Reflecting on Inflexion (IFX)

Greystone - 25 Sep 2004 18:25

Every so often a little bell goes off in the distance that is neither the teas-made nor the front door and I just wonder what is going on......

Take this company, Inflexion...

Never heard of them until recently and, apart from the blurb on their website, (http://www.inflexion.com/) which contains such prattle as....

"Inflexion is an active lead investor with a distinctive research-driven approach to the mid-market. Typically Inflexion makes equity investments in the range of 2-10m, in businesses well positioned in their chosen sector and with the potential to deliver superior returns."

.......I am still little wiser.

They have done nothing of consequence that I'm aware of and, looking at a mid-term chart, it bears a resemblance to a side view of Mount Everest - looking down the mountain. :-)

Why the interest then?

I notice a couple of weeks ago that Directors made some modestly good purchases and that since then there have been a series of other buys going through regularly at full offer price, many of them "B" (Broker to Broker) trades. Not enough to raise any hackles, but enough to ring that little bell that asks me the question... "What is going on?"

If anyone can enlighten me, I will be grateful. I do hate unsolved mysteries. I know they are due to open a Manchester office this month, so maybe one of our NW contingent has picked up a hint.

No takers on this one so I guess I'm on my own. (I bought some stock last week.)

I notice that while I was enconsed at the NW Traders Day in Clitheroe on Friday, there were more "B" (broker-to-broker) trades and the price ticked up a bit. My gut feel is not a very reliable trading signal, but it tells me something is going on here. :-)

I picked up this snippet, tucked away in the Market Miscellany section of the Sunday Telegraph today, that may just help things on their way.....

"...Inflexion has....cut its losses to 988,000 for the year ending March against 4.4m the previous year. A maiden profit is now likely at interim results in November. The company has assets of 20p per share, but at the current share price (15.5p) it is trading at a 22.5 per cent discount to net asset value which looks cheap."

Bought into it on an IC tip on Friday. Is anyone else into this.
