US stocks closed mixed tonight after a tame speech by Fed Chairman Greenspan helped offset losses caused by disappointing consumer confidence and new home sales figures.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 12.58 points at 10,456.21. The Nasdaq Composite lost 5.04 points to end at 2,116.42 and the S&P500 gained just 0.03 points for a nearly flat close at 1,215.66.
In Asia, the Hang Seng ended the morning up 55.6 points at 15,245.48 with the Nikkei last trading up 144.42 points at 13,454.46.
Oil slipped slightly with New York's main contract, light sweet crude for delivery in November off three cents at $65.04 a barrel from its close of $65.07 in the US overnight where it had lost 75 cents.
