Is Zopa the new lending service whereby people effectively become a bank themselves and lend their money to others?

Yes Andy, I looked into it once, out of curiosity, it seems to me, the risks are quite high and the rewards not that great.

rampton,
Ok thanks for that, I'll give it a miss then!
I wondered what sort of security they offered.

Andy, from memory (I looked into it over a year ago) I don't think there was any, but you lent a fraction of your money to hundreds of different people and the theory was there would only be a small percentage of bad debts in the whole lot. If you wanted to borrow money, it seems you could get good rates, but it didn't seem attractive at all to the lenders. There was a thread about it in the traders room when it first started, maybe if you put in the epic ZOPA, it might come up.

I know there's at least one trader's BB regular poster who lends via Zopa - I'll point him in this thread's direction.

Little Woman.
I have also lent on Zopa this year and I`ve found it very rewarding.
I have started with a modest amount like yourself but I am looking to add more funds.
