I created this post on Traders Room ..... I'll copy across the last relevant post or two .......

My concept was a convivial dinner for "the like minded" somewhere fairly central (London) ...... Given that my idea of fun is not a MacD, I had in mind some sensibly priced and relaxed brasserie - e.g. forget the name but the one on the corner of Pelham Street and Brompton Road (South Ken).

London being London, I reckon an overall budget of probably 50/60 would not be far off the mark, but am happy to be guided by others.

Just possible would be w/c 15th May, but that is rather too short notice to my mind.

Thursday 8th June would work for me or w/c 19th June (not Wed or Thur).

If brasserie considered a bit pricy for many, then best bet would be somewhere like Cheung Leung(?) being the big but pretty good Chinese in Queensway (W2).

Advice please!!

Am pleased to note quite a lot of potential interest ...... For those who are genuinely interested, perhaps it would be best to e-mail me with availability dates, per those already suggested, and whether your preference is for brasserie or Chinese in Queensway .... I would estimate the latter to be perhaps 10 cheaper on the basis that one (me for sure) is more likely to drink beer than wine.

Partners would be welcome, though to makle life manageable, I reckon maximum numbers should be 12/15 .... should there be that good a response!

I am interested, is this kind of get together a kind of exchange of opinions... what would a "the like minded" person be? Tonker

Average cost is reckoned to be 35-40 but of course that depends on how much is drunk.

I will book a table for say 12 peeps, but if insufficient firm interest, I shall cancel.


Isaacs' idea of a wine bar etc was also good, but as I neither work nor live in London, for me that had limited appeal ...... but if that is the way everyone wants to go .....

Absolutely, IMO.

Did you ever get the dinner organised?

If not, and you ever want to arrange something, I know of a few places where dinner would be cheaper , and we could have a reserved area within, say a pub, eg The Cabin near Piccadilly Circus.
