Dear All,

I am organising this years MoneyAM Golf Day which is in aid of the Macmillan Cancer Fund. It will be a great day out and all for a worthy cause.

Macmillan dedicates itself to giving every person in the land equal and ready access to the best information, treatment and care for cancer.

As this years event is a charity event, the total cost of the whole day will be 85 (around 20 - 25 will be donated from every entry to the Macmillan Cancer Fund). This will include all golfing activities on the day, bacon rolls on arrival, lunch, an evening dinner, and prize giving ceremony.

The winners of this years event (the afternoon's Texas Scramble) will get 1 years free subscription to MoneyAM Level 2, and the prestigious MoneyAM Annual Golf Challenge Cup which the team will share.

Second and Third place teams will each receive medals, plus 6 months worth of MoneyAM Level 2

MoneyAM will also get prizes for 1, 2, 3, nearest the pin and longest drive in the morning Stableford competition. I will present a Wooden Spoon on the day, so you should all be wary of that!

Itinerary for the Day

8.30 am onwards: Arrival at VGC Meet and greet bacon rolls on arrival

9.30 am onwards: 11 hole Stableford Tee off in groups of 3/4 from 8.30AM although I expect a number will arrive after 9.30am, either pre arranged or allocated on the day

From 12.30: Light rolling Lunch after completion of morning Stableford. Menu - Cold Meat Buffet with New Potatoes and Salad.

1.30 pm: 18 Hole Texas Scramble Pre-arranged teams of 4, each player must hit at least 3 drives and handicap is 1/8th of combined total. Individual entries will be teamed up by organiser in advance

What is Texas Scramble? This is a game of 3 or 4 player teams. All players in a team tee off then the team chooses their best drive and all 3 or 4 will play their second shot from that spot. This continues until the hole is completed, including putting out. There are many variations of handicapping and play, so I have chosen a percentage of combined HCP, with each team member taking 3 compulsory drives.

7.00 pm Evening Meal and Prize Giving:

Starter: Homemade Soup

Main: Chicken Breast with Gruyere cheese wrapped in Bacon

Dessert: Fruit crumble served with Custard

As with previous years, I will need to collect the cash of all participants up front, and I think we will follow the method we have done before:

Cheques payable to: R W L Colby
And please send your cheques (with a note giving your MoneyAM username) to the following address: Ian Taylor MoneyAM Ltd Thames House 18 Park Street London SE1 9ER

Ian will then forward them on to me.

The nearest train station is St Albans City which is about 1km north, and there is a very good 3 star Quality Inn 300 yards away on London Road for around 75 per night.

This years event which will be the best ever. I hope to see familiar and new faces alike in what could prove to be the biggest Golf day we have had so far. Although I am sure competition will be fierce, this is also designed to be an enjoyable day for all.

If you are interested in coming along (and all are welcome), please can you indicate so on this thread, and we can then start collating numbers and collecting the cash.

I look forward to seeing you all there,

I thought MG's would be the "Flatulent Fairies" or 'Winson Green jail breakers' :-0)

mg - 06 Feb 2007 18:30 - 101 of 207

Don't rush me - it's nearly time for lights out and my cell mate is getting a bit frisky - so no time for frivolities like thinking of a name - (s)he needs diverting from an unpleasant version of after eight delights ........

And you got that wrong, Bob - it was hottie totties as in pink hottie totties.
Unless you prefer pink pussies, meggers?

Pinsticker - 06 Feb 2007 19:55 - 103 of 207

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am able to attend this event.

Please add 1 "player" to the Financial Disappointments Ltd team.

choccie - just seen your alternative and, well, errrm, yes ........

Bobcolby - 10 Feb 2007 09:23 - 106 of 207

Hi Guys and dolls

I did not see the new GM at Verulam on Wednesday he was away playing golf!

The course has been closed for 3 days due to snow, everything is waterlogged.
Barring global warming surprises, we wont have this problem in June

Are there any lady golfers thinking of playing this year?

Choccie does not mind if its all fellas but us guys would like to see a few more ladies this year. At the moment Choc is favorite to win the ladies prize, which is a very valuable one, a 20,000 trip for 4 to a Botswana safari lodge. All you have to do is win the golf and I give you a telephone number to claim it. It starts with 09xxx

Just met the new GM at Verulam. All OK as agreed for June 4th.

I only have 27 entries. I need 50 to meet my 1000 target for the Macmillan fund. Spread the word people, there are more of you out there who would like to attend. Tell all your friends

If anyone wants to join us for dinner only, the cost is 25. More details to follow.

I must pay a deposit by end of April to secure booking so cheques would be welcome in the near future

mg - 21 Feb 2007 15:10 - 112 of 207

Bob
I've been trying to drum up some extra numbers as well - will keep you posted - just one at the moment - hoping for at least a fourball.

amberjane - 21 Feb 2007 16:14 - 113 of 207

Snap mg!

Bob please put me down for the evening meal definitely and I'll chase up my 3 companions! Also if you want any help at all for the day I'm more than happy to help.

Bobcolby - 21 Feb 2007 19:39 - 114 of 207

Hi dcb, Ian mg & amber

Sorry for delay in response I have been away for two days. I got drafted to go to Longleat and look at animals and things.

Roger to all. dcb you are my first cheque, thanks.

Offer of help is much appreciated amber, there are several folically challenged old men coming and they may need help putting on suntan cream, shoes and that sort of thing.

Dead Cat Bounce - 25 Feb 2007 11:14 - 115 of 207

Bob - I just had a thought. (Unusual in one so old!). You say in the intro post that the morning 11 hole stableford will be teams if 3, but the afternoon round is teams of 4. If I put a team of 4 together we'd like to play together for the whole day. Can something be done?

2nd cheque on way. Hope to get a fourball at least.

regards

dcb

Bobcolby - 26 Feb 2007 08:35 - 116 of 207

dcb

Well done, keep up the good work

It actually says groups of three, this is an individual competition. The main criteria is to keep the field moving to avoid slow play. If I get 72 entries, it will be a tight squeeze. If you are early or there are less than fifty players you can play as a fourball or in two twos.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 26 Feb 2007 12:10 - 117 of 207

DCB,

I have received your second cheque - thanks for that.

Bob, I will forward over these 2 cheques together in the next day or so.
