How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 13:42 - 10013 of 10502

Annoyed myself last night.
I made Ukraine favs so laid the Swiss at 2.46 a hour before kickoff, they were then backed in so though i must have missed some team news, so i closed my bet an small all round red.
Managed to scalp bits to make the draw green and the other even but should have made so much more!

Cant see Ghana givign brazil too many probs todays with Essien missing, but Ghana will start brightly so will lay brazil for 10 mins.

France v Spain is a game to watch, anythign could happen Im more interested in the Henry v Puyol and Fab vs Vieira battles!!

bakko - 27 Jun 2006 14:41 - 10014 of 10502

Pommy....go easy if you're going to lay Brazil. Don't do it way before ko as the big lumpers will bring the price in. Also, if Brazil starts well the price will shorten too. It could be a while before your trade comes good again.

I layed France v Togo and had to endure 30 heart stopping mins before getting out on a profit!

Mr Euro - 27 Jun 2006 15:22 - 10015 of 10502

Bakko thanks but dont worry, I have been around the block (although Betfair is a new block!).

Have opened a second Poker account at a place that will remain nameless. Will try and play 2 at the same table, not sure if this is agaisnt the rules?

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 15:55 - 10016 of 10502

i see ghana strting well and taking it to Brazil.
i wont be in too heavy tho!

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2006 16:00 - 10017 of 10502

I will be laying Brazil from the start.

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2006 16:04 - 10018 of 10502

Mr E

Very against the rules and theyll trace it very quickly and bar you from the site and circulate your details to other poker sites. Would advise very strongly not to do so

Fundamentalist - 27 Jun 2006 16:05 - 10019 of 10502

Ps hope you did lump on brazil

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 16:06 - 10020 of 10502

ooops that was always the risk!!!

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 16:09 - 10021 of 10502

Scrip how to play out now then (he asks for a bit of free advice ;))

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2006 16:10 - 10022 of 10502

Laying the favourite is always a much lower risk strategy.

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 16:11 - 10023 of 10502

so lay them again?

Scripophilist - 27 Jun 2006 16:13 - 10024 of 10502

I am not paying much attention to the football today and looking at Wimbledon instead.

Pommy - 27 Jun 2006 16:20 - 10025 of 10502

scrip is much of your method based around saloing time decaying markets?

bakko - 27 Jun 2006 16:21 - 10026 of 10502

Pommy, I wouldn't advise laying again. Only listening to the game here and based on the commentary there's more Brazil goals to come. Take the loss on the chin mate.

Alternatively, you could lump on Brazil, big samba style and hope they wrap up the game. Not for the faint hearted though!

Pommy - 28 Jun 2006 08:01 - 10027 of 10502

i backed them at 1.08 and laid them again at 1.02 so reduced my loss!!

Bottled the french game, after saying it was one to watch I laid them in the end then decided i would revert to my original idea to just watch the game so closed it for a 20quid win on france. :)

Mr Euro - 28 Jun 2006 08:30 - 10028 of 10502

Didn't get on the Brasil game in the end. Won a bit on France but only put a 100 on.

Mr Euro - 28 Jun 2006 08:44 - 10029 of 10502

The bet of the day for me I think is the cricket. Sri Lanka look very good value at 1.82, Pieterson / Collingwood are doubtful making an England win more unlikely.

Will put 2k on I think.

Fundamentalist - 28 Jun 2006 08:51 - 10030 of 10502

Mr E

already on at 2.0 ;-)

Mr Euro - 28 Jun 2006 08:59 - 10031 of 10502

On too now and moved the nudged the price a couple of points.
