I'm not sure if its been asked before, but has anyone experience of avast mobile?

Yes, I have. I downloaded it quite a while ago to my Motorola Defy (Android) and I found it slowed everything down so much that I had to uninstall it. But have recently tried again and it seems to do the trick now without any appreciable drain on resources. I assume it is due to the bug fixes and updates which now make it user friendly. The only thing which I won't allow it to do is to install a firewall as it requires root access and I am not prepared to go that route.

Thanks Harry - I've just downloaded it.

When you go into the properties, you can set various parameters, but activating the firewall will prompt a 'Root access permission' request and unless you are very familiar with the programming of your mobile phone software, I would advise against it. Most other settings are reasonably easy to set.

Not being very tech savvy, but does that set allow me to attach via the Ethernet cable my Mac Mini that I am using now?

It appeals to me on price - £299 and built in WIFI.

Probably not. The Ethernet sockets on TVs are usually to connect to a router to get it online. However, that is not always the case.

I have a Samsung 40" LED smart TV & it's lovely. Apparently I can control it with my Samsung Galaxy phone, but never bothered. No wi-fi connection, mine is hooked up by ethernet socket. Also have a Sony 46" which isn't a patch on the Samsung for style, build quality etc.

Looks quite smart skinny, though it's amazing now how poor the speakers (in all TV's) are as there just isn't sufficient room in the set to put deep speakers. Of course it's another way they can now sell sound bars as an extra!

how did you discover you had the virus, was it picked up by avast/avg which ever you use?

BB - if you are asking me, then its not a virus per se, it seems to be a data collecting search engine which I certainly didn't intentionally download - I must have missed an 'untick' option.

I've uninstalled it etc etc, but I can't stop it opening in the 1st tab of Chrome, which I have set up to open half a dozen tabs on launch - so at the moment, I'm just closing the 1st tab.

You might like to try going on to Cool Novo instead, which is a really good version of Chrome Plus.

That looks interesting - although it appears to install itself as the default browser on installation - a tad presumptive!

Skinny, if you're using avast that might remove it - I used it to clean my browsers up and remove a similar piece of software. Can you re-set the tabs that open when your browser is opened?

Seymour - I have run avast -but to no avail, I had to reset the google start tabs and default search engine etc as 'delta search' had made itself the default.

Other sites/engines operate in a similar manner, but its normally straight forward to consign them to the bin.

Until I find a 'domestos' type solution, I'll just delete the 1st tab.
