iPod Nano battery is now not holding charge. I know you can buy battery packs and do it yourself. Has anyone actually done it though for a Nano? It looks as though the battery connections need soldering for this model!

Good Luck! Installing iPod Nano 4th Generation Battery Replacement

HARRYCAT - 11 Jul 2013 09:21 - 10276 of 11003

Thanks skinny! That's the site I first looked at. Excellent site for the DIYer.

Haystack - 11 Jul 2013 09:30 - 10277 of 11003

I have done the job. I bought the battery and the kit of tools from EBay. It worked pretty well.

HARRYCAT - 11 Jul 2013 09:50 - 10278 of 11003

What about the soldering? Not all of the Nano's need a soldering iron, I believe, but am not sure which generation I have. Also you say 'pretty well' !!! If there is potential for bu**ering it up, I would prefer to pay someone else to do it, but £60 at Apple for a gadget that cost £110 is a bit steep!

Haystack - 11 Jul 2013 12:40 - 10279 of 11003

I had no problems. I have a soldering iron with a micro tip. I have done an IPod touch as well.

skinny - 11 Jul 2013 12:41 - 10280 of 11003

Come on Harry - man up! :-)

HARRYCAT - 11 Jul 2013 12:51 - 10281 of 11003

Hmmmm...think I may mail it to Haystack & get him to do it ! ;o)

Haystack - 11 Jul 2013 13:05 - 10282 of 11003

I am very expensive. The ones I did were my kid's. They are still paying me back.

HARRYCAT - 11 Jul 2013 14:02 - 10283 of 11003

It's an Apple iPod Nano A1199 2nd Gen 4GB MP3 Player, with lots of 'make sure you don't....' warnings when removing/soldering/reassembling, so as Haystack has ducked the responsibility ;o) , have arranged to send it away for professional (hopefully) repair at a total cost of £50 (incl VAT & courier delivery to & from my house.) It's off to Letchworth tomorrow via City Link! ..........not sure if that is a good start!

You could probably buy one second hand for less

£24.99 on ebay

Haystack - 11 Jul 2013 14:19 - 10285 of 11003

Try CEX

http://uk.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SMP3APP55C

£32

a list of their stores with stock on right hand of page

I use CEX all the time. They give guarantees as well.

HARRYCAT - 11 Jul 2013 15:54 - 10286 of 11003

You are probably right about a second hand one, but I may be back with the same problem if the battery has seen better days. Also I do tend to look after my gear quite well, so this iPod is totally scratch free and I would prefer not to part with it.
We also have a CEX in Norwich, which seems to be a pretty good source for slightly older electronic goods. Have had a look for Motorola & Nexus phones there, but they don't have what I want atm.

_68681213_phones.pngNokia's Lumia 1020 features 41 megapixel camera

Nokia has unveiled a new handset with a 41 megapixel sensor which it claims can record "details never thought possible from a smartphone".

It says consumers will be able to zoom in and reframe their photos without worrying about the image quality suffering.

Analysts who have tested the device said that it was "without doubt" the best smartphone camera on the market.

But they added that was not a guarantee that it would be a bestseller.

HARRYCAT - 12 Jul 2013 15:17 - 10288 of 11003

Citylink driver turned up at the door to collect my iPod today. No manifest, no collection note, no plastic envelope & no label. He wanted me to give him the package and wasn't prepared to give me any paperwork at all. He said that the system would generate a label when he got back to the depot & he would find an envelope somewhere in the warehouse. I have worked for both FedEx & Lynx in the past so I know how the system should work, so I told him there was no way I was going to let him chuck my item in the back of his van without some sort of paperwork & a label attached. He left without it! Urghhhhhhhh!!!!!

Haystack - 12 Jul 2013 15:29 - 10289 of 11003

That's quite bizzare. I wouldn't be happy either with that sort of service.

skinny - 12 Jul 2013 15:31 - 10290 of 11003

Was he wearing a stetson?

HARRYCAT - 12 Jul 2013 15:44 - 10291 of 11003

I phoned the company who organised the collection and they said that they had no end of complaints about the Citylink service, but clearly they were getting a very cheap parcel rate so it was either a case of putting up their prices and changing carrier, or putting up with it. My past experience of Citylink is that they are cheap and sloppy (probably why Rentokil are trying to offload them). You generally get what you pay for. I have sent the package recorded Royal Mail accompanied by a letter of complaint. I shan't hold my breath!

Can anyone help.

My wife has a Acer Iconia Andriod Tablet A110.

It appears to be going in a continual loop.

If you switch it on, the Acer name comes up then screen goes blank within seconds then Acer name comes up then so on and on.

We have found how to get past this by switching on and immidiatelly pressing the volume up/down button that for some reason brings a random photo up from its picture gallery.

There is also the wording 'safe mode' that then apears but then it goes back to the loop again.

Any idea's how to solve this.

Thanks in advance.

HARRYCAT - 26 Jul 2013 10:42 - 10293 of 11003

Sounds like a boot up problem and the BIOS is unable to find something. Maybe a RAM problem. If it was a PC I would also suspect a fan (on the main processor) failure, but not sure if tablet fans work in the same way. Also, does your machine beep at you when trying to boot up? Again, not sure if tablets work in the same way, but PC's have a beep code to identify what is causing the boot up fault.
