As posted previously - since upgrading to W8, and on advice from a security expert, I only use Defender.

@optomistic,glad i have decided to stay using Comodo and Avast, have to admit the computer is running very well since i upgraded from ZoneAlarm and AVG,that Security Essentials seems to be missing the mark security wise.
Thanks for your suggestion its been a great help.

I did a clean up of all my browsers this weekend using the inbuilt scanners in free Avast and the improvement in performance is huge - mainly because of removing the add-ons that my daughter inadvertently managed to collect whilst using my PC.
The interface in Avast is very clear and I really like it. Considered MS security essentials, but I'm very happy with what I've got.

I'm not sure if its been asked before, but has anyone experience of avast mobile?

Yes, I have. I downloaded it quite a while ago to my Motorola Defy (Android) and I found it slowed everything down so much that I had to uninstall it. But have recently tried again and it seems to do the trick now without any appreciable drain on resources. I assume it is due to the bug fixes and updates which now make it user friendly. The only thing which I won't allow it to do is to install a firewall as it requires root access and I am not prepared to go that route.

When you go into the properties, you can set various parameters, but activating the firewall will prompt a 'Root access permission' request and unless you are very familiar with the programming of your mobile phone software, I would advise against it. Most other settings are reasonably easy to set.

Not being very tech savvy, but does that set allow me to attach via the Ethernet cable my Mac Mini that I am using now?

Stan - Have a look at the Input&Output spec.
It appeals to me on price - £299 and built in WIFI.

Probably not. The Ethernet sockets on TVs are usually to connect to a router to get it online. However, that is not always the case.

I have a Samsung 40" LED smart TV & it's lovely. Apparently I can control it with my Samsung Galaxy phone, but never bothered. No wi-fi connection, mine is hooked up by ethernet socket. Also have a Sony 46" which isn't a patch on the Samsung for style, build quality etc.

Looks quite smart skinny, though it's amazing now how poor the speakers (in all TV's) are as there just isn't sufficient room in the set to put deep speakers. Of course it's another way they can now sell sound bars as an extra!
Clearly your investments are returning good profits to be able to buy a new PC and TV !!!! ;o)

Pair of PC viruses help each other survive
Two computer viruses that collaborate are proving hard to clean from infected PCs, Microsoft research suggests.
The pair of viruses foil removal by regularly downloading updated versions of their malware partner.

how did you discover you had the virus, was it picked up by avast/avg which ever you use?
